I googled it and the consensus seems to be to run against traffic. I found this:

You want to run facing traffic because?

?you will know when somebody is coming.

?two heads will have an opportunity to avoid a collision (you and the driver).

?in some areas, it is illegal to run or walk with traffic at your back.

?if everybody did this, then you would not have to worry about passing somebody going in the other direction while two cars are also vying for road real estate at the same time.

?drivers expect you to be running towards them and predictability makes you safer.

This post is brought to you by the biitch who yelled "Wrong Side!" at me last night. lol.

Long time lurker here.

I'm currently training for a half marathon in mid-July, with a century bike ride about 3 weeks later. I'm up to 10 miles in my long runs, which I currently do with friends on Saturday mornings, but then I'm finding that I do not have the energy for a long training ride on Sundays. My last Sunday ride I only made it about 10 miles when usually 30-40 is no problem!

Any advice? I guess I can do my rides during the week once it stays light later in the evenings. How do you tri ladies schedule your training?

Daisy's deferring of the Boston marathon got me thinking. I'm signed up for a 10k in May, but with potentially not being able to run for the next 5 weeks (as long as everything progresses positively), I e-mailed the race organizer to explain the situation. She allowed both DH and I to defer our race fees to next year's race (which she's considering turning into a 5k and a half-marathon.) I have to say, she was incredibly kind (I met her last year and the woman really organizes a well-put together race), wished us luck, and told me not that she's looking forward to seeing us next year (with a baby waiting at the finish line.)

I have seven weeks left in my 1/2 training program. The long runs are assigned as follows: 5K, 9, 10, 10K, 11, 12, Race. Two weekends ago I ran 7. This weekend was supposed to be 8, but I could only manage to schedule in a 5 miler. So I was planning to sub 8 miles for next weeks 5K and then proceed as schduled. Do you think it is okay to do an 11 and a 12 in the two weeks before the race? If not, how would you arrange the rest of the long runs.

A little background about me. This is my 2 second 1/2, but I am not very experienced with long distances. Last year I think I only did two 8's and one 10 in prep for my first 1/2. Also, I was fighting knee and back issues that tend to crop up when I run longer distances. (I needed about a month's worth of physical therapy to help me through the last one). Thankfully, my training has been painless so far, but I'm trying to be careful.

Thanks for any help/guidance!

I think it's time for me to get new shoes, my knees and legs are starting to hurt a little. I was really hoping to make my shoes last till Mothers day when I can afford to get new ones. Is there anything I can do about the pain or is the pain just going to get worse till I get new shoes. It's just very bad timing right now. I'm going in a bachelorette party weekend and FI is going to Vegas next weekend for the bachelor party then I have the bridal shower I'm helping with. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have been lurking over here off and on for a few months and figured I should introduce myself-I'm normally on the Pets board.

I am a former water polo player, and gained a lot of weight during college, due primarily to inactivity. Since graduating in December, I have lost 24 pounds by eating a paleo diet. I'm going to be starting a CrossFit intro class April 30th at my local box, and am very excited but also pretty nervous.

Ideally, I'd like to lose 50-60 more pounds, but I think it will end up being less as I add muscle with CrossFit. I have always been a muscular person, and I'm looking forward to getting back in shape!

ETA: I'm also an avid FiveFingers wearer, and wanted recommendations for FiveFingers that are appropriate for CrossFit. I was thinking the Komodo Sport, but would love some input.

Over the past couple weeks, my knees and feet have been a little achy. I have iced and taken it easy as I really have no races coming up. I think part (or most) of the problem is I don't do much other then running. So I have been working on doing some videos (usually a Bob Harper or Jillian Michaels) at home on non running days.

In the past I have done some yoga DVD's (Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown, Biggest Losers Yoga for weighloss, and Bethenny Frankels) and really enjoyed them, but I am pretty sure that they're not exactly what a yoga class is like. I am going next Saturday to a class at a yoga studio. It is a beginners class, but are there any tips or suggestions you have for me? I am always intimidated going in to a class not knowing what to expect.

Just curious whether there are opinions out there about running, and whether one runs an entire race. I began c25K in February, and will do my first 5K May 6. I started training on the treadmill, and while I'm faster outdoors, I definitely cannot run a full 3.1miles continuously.I've also thought about trying the Galloway method with 2min run/1min walk intervals; I've heard it can actually improve your overall time. Should I use Galloway just for training; is it frowned upon to go into a 5K race planning to walk parts of it; or is it typical for new runners to walk parts of a race? Not sure why I'm worried about what others think of me about how I run the race, but I don't want to break any ettiquite (sp?) rules or act disrespectful in any way, and I feel like I'm just starting to learn about 'rules' in running. So, does running a full race really matter?

Okay, so this might be a stupid question, but Google is not helping me find an answer.

I'm planning to get a new tattoo done this week. Also, DH and I are going to start TTC this summer (June, July). Is there a rule or school of thought on how long you should wait to TTC after getting a new tattoo? This will be my 5th tattoo. It'll be on my right ankle. I haven't had (knock on wood) any infections or bad reactions with my other tattoos. So, thoughts?

All I could find with google was to not get a tattoo while pregnant. I couldn't find anything about TTC.

Oh, and to make it more H&F related, with a new tattoo on my ankle, how long should I wait before running? TIA!

For me, any new fitness clothes are a splurge. However, I think having cute fitness clothes can be motivating. Every now and then I will go to a site that has a lot of cute stuff out, and load up my shopping cart just to see how much my dream fitness wardrobe would. Athleta and Title Nine are the worst because they make me think I need outfits for cute hiking dates and whatnot (even though my husband would definitely not be into hiking dates). Other times I think I would be thrilled just to have a workout tank that supports without doing weird things to my boobs and not pay Lululemon type prices. (I try doing the sale thing but it seems my size sells out before sales start. I haven't loved my Marshalls finds. It really is more about an aspirational fitness lifestyle).

First 5K of the season and there was a group of us running, 9 total I think. I am slower than all get out, but also super competitive, I knew that most everyone would beat me, but I really, really wanted to beat my son and my brother, and I did! I creamed my son by like 3 minutes and I only beat my brother by 9 seconds, but I still beat him. I found some energy at the last quarter mile and managed to pass about 20 runners. I ended up finising 208 overall, but there were over 250 people who finished behind me so I was happy LOL I also shaved 1:30 min off my time from this same race last year, so overall, I am very happy. I don't however want to talk about my non-runner BF who beat me by over 5 minutes, but whatever
