I'm running a full on May 6th. It's technically my second full, but my first was over 6 years ago so I'm still very much a beginner. I was supposed to do 20 on Sunday but I psyched myself out with the heat, was running low on water, and stopped at 14. A couple people on here yesterday suggested that I NOT try to do 20 next Sunday because it will only be 2 weeks out. I was thinking of doing 20 either tues or wed instead. I'm worried now that going into the run with only having run 18 as my longest will also psych me out so I'd really like to squeeze in a full 20 before the race.

Do you think a long weekday run will be ok and taper as usual from there? What else would you suggest? Thanks so much!!

My doctors would like me to wait until I'm at least 8, if not 10, weeks along before picking up my running routine (basically until I'm out of the typical miscarriage window.) By then, it will have been 5-7 weeks, depending on when I'm cleared to start again, without any running.

Will it absolutely suck once I start up again? Should I start with something like C25K to ease back into it? (Up until last week, I was running 15-20 miles a week, averaging 4 miles per run at an 11-11:30 pace.) Is there anything I can do in the meantime to make the transition back into running, assuming I'm cleared, easier? I've been using the ellipticals at the gym (arc trainer, regular elliptical, the Precor thing) and have been walking (usually 2 miles because honestly, the walking just makes me want to start running.) I stopped my 5 times a week spin class because the room is just too hot (the instructors, and lots of the class participants, are anti-fans and I've spoken to management, but there's not much I can else I can do.) I'm still lifting weights (not doing any moves on my stomach, obviously) and being careful with the weight I'm using.

Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

I will preface this with a note that I am not looking to do a juice fast or cleanse. I'm interested in juicing to up my consumption of veggies. I'm also focusing on adding them into meals regularly, but I think juicing would be a helpful complement.

A friend who is very into juicing recommended a masticating-type juicer. I just can't swing spending upwards of $400 or $500. So I'm looking at the centrifugal-type juicers. I know these have downsides.

Right now I'm looking at two Breville juicers and this is my frontrunner: http://www.brevilleusa.com/beverages/juicers/juice-fountain-multi-speed.html. I also like this one: http://www.brevilleusa.com/beverages/juicers/die-cast-juice-fountain-elite.html, but I don't know if the tech spec differences warrant the $100 jump.

Opinions on these or suggestions for other brands?

I'm genuinely curious....Why would runners not do a marathon if it's 80 degrees?

As a cyclist, I race in all sorts of weather. 110 degree temperature index (99 degree air temp+humidity)--check. 25 degrees and snow--check. 50 and 30 mph wind gusts that took out most of the course tape--check. Pouring rain and 40 degrees--check. Cyclists will ride and race in any and all weather as long as it's not dangerous such as lightening, tornados, etc. There are plenty of cycling races--road and mountain biking--held in the middle of the summer when temps are well into the 90s. The same goes for triathlons, and they run. Tens of thousands of riders and charity cyclists do century rides in the summer every year.

I'm not knocking anyone or anything. I just wonder why it wouldn't be the same for runners. Why would you not run/race a marathon when it's warm or hot?

I'm finally done my first race! It was 10k and my time was 56:59. My goal was to break an hour which I hadn't really done in training, but hadn't tried that hard. I think I did pretty well.

The course was TOUGH. Also, I read SO much about starting out slow and saving your energy. I thought I did that...tons of people passed me at the beginning. However, I think my fast pace is their slow pace so I was going faster than I thought. I figured it out though, and slowed down. It was the last 3 k that almost killed me! Somehow it all ended up being uphill, especially the last k. Killer, but fun!

I'm so glad I have gotten through the first one...now I can plan for the next race...dreaming of a half....

Do you ever get so excited by a new workout that you just can't wait until you aren't sore anymore so you can kick it's butt again? haha That's where I'm at right now! I did week 3 day 1 on Friday which was pretty tough for me, and then yesterday I had a long hard day of snowboarding, so my legs and my butt are crazy sore. I can't wait for it to feel better so I can give it another go!
I only ran 14 miles and it felt like crap.

I'm going to try again for 20 next weekend and start earlier so it's hopefully cooler. But what if it's this warm on race day? :'(

I'm sooo excited! It's the Susan G Komen race for the cure! I bought a snazzy t shirt and bracelets and I can't wait. The race is May 19th and I'm in the last week of c25k so until then I'll work on my pace. I'm not concerned with time I'd just like to run the whole race. You girls have been such an inspiration and motivation for me and I have to thank you. When ive had a rough week or bad run I always come and read posts about PRs and new people just starting out and I can see where I've been and where I'll be some day!

In some ways it went really well. I finished in 34:25, which isn't too shabby considering it was my first race in 15 years. The weather was perfect, the race was well organized. I ran into some friends unexpectedly, and that was fun. I ran all of it, except for about 15 seconds where I walked.

I'm not feeling that great about it. Last weekend I ran 3.1 in my neighborhood in 32:24, and I was expecting to improve on that. The course was deceptively hilly. I started too fast (I did my first mile in exactly 10:00). Mostly, I was a little disappointed because I felt the whole time like I was at the back of the pack, and I feel like that messed with my head. I literally could not see anyone behind me. I finished 230/328, so I wasn't the last person or anything. Since it's just a smaller, local race, I think I expected a lot more walkers, and I was disappointed when I was in the back of the pack.

Anyway, the 2nd half of the race went pretty well. I fell in behind a woman who was running at the perfect pace for me, and pretty much let her set my pace for the remainder of the race.

On to the next challenge....I am still tossing around the idea of a 5K trail race in May. I am definitely going to do a 5K closer to my neighborhood at the beginning of June, and a 10K in July.

I have never had allergies before. I typically find that in the spring time I sometimes wake up and sneeze 15-20 times and have a bad taste in my mouth after I first walked outside but that was the extent of my allergies. This year I have had 2-3 colds I thought I successfully fought off but I think they may have been allergies.

Symptoms- 3 or four days of sore throat, never progressing to a cold with sneezing and running nose.

Acheness, tiredness, unable to function normally, hard to concentrate, drive, etc

This past week it was athe worst. Wednesday night I got the first tingle in the back of my throat knowing a sore throat was right around the corner. It happened within an hour of mowing my lawn, possible allergy to grass, pollen?? Next day I felt like crap. Went to work and was out of it all night. I had a hard time thinking, dizzy, tired and as the night progressed my throat became raw. I work nights and got my Friday and Saturday shifts covered and layed around all day. Went to Walgreens clinic since I don't have health insurance for another two weeks. They said they would give me antibiotics if symptoms are still present Monday. If I continue to feel better I won't go. I took several meds she recommended as well as nasal wash.

So I am wondering if I should get allergy tested so I know what exactly I am allergic to. Also wondering what I can do to fight off future outbreaks. I think this last round may have been a sinus infection. Any suggestions from fellow allergy sufferers appreciated. I cannot afford to take another weekend off. I don't have paid sick days. Need to figure this out ASAP.

Holy crap, that was really challenging. It was 6 miles/6 bridges out and then the same back. My half is in two weeks. I'm tapering from here. I'm not following any specific plan (this is my second half) but I was thinking of doing maybe 2 4m runs this week and a 7m run next sunday following be a few 2.5-3 mile runs the week of the race. Any suggestions or advice about that schedule?
