Age difference in YA

I just finished my second recent YA realistic romance where the age difference between the characters bothered me. Both times it was a girl who was 15 (summer before or in sophomore year of HS) and the boy was 18, summer before starting college or a college freshman. When I was a freshman in college, I didn't really have anything in common with somebody not old enough to drive. They just seem to be in completely different age groups. And even if you take away the legal aspect - one's a legally minor where the other is an adult - it still felt squicky to me.

OK, first, I loved the book. The writing is so strong.

But I have a question that's bugging me. Why did Ig turn into a devil? At one point he says something about that's what he is without Merrin, but that doesn't make sense. Ig wasn't evil before he met Merrin. Was he just supposed to be turning into what people thought of him? I know this is one of those vague things I'm not supposed to take literally, but it's bugging me.

I was so fascinated with the ending too, especially learning about Merrin. In a way, Lee was her savior because she didn't want to go through all of what her sister went through with the cancer. So many layers of meaning here.

So I've been feeling kind of down lately. Winter won't end (I know today was the first day of spring but it was windy and cold and they're calling for snow next week). Plus, I'm back to never seeing the dark (when you work 7pm-7am this time of year it's always light out and that kinda messes with your head). I could use a feel good read to pick me up. It's sooooooooo good! I love the uniqueness of the plot and how the MC commands respect, despite the fact that her self-esteem is in the sh!tter. I'm about halfway through and will probably finish it tonight. Has anyone else read this series?

Fire and Thorns trilogy (SPOILERS)

I finished the third book last night, and all I can say is siiiiiiiiiiigh. Hector. I didn't think anyone could replace Humberto, but I have to admit that Hector is a much better match for Elisa in every single way. And Elisa! She might be my new favorite heroine. I love her strength, especially the way she fakes confidence when she's terrified and has none. She's not whiny or bratty, (well, in the very beginning of the first book she's a bit whiny, but that doesn't last long), and she's smart enough to solve the biggest problems on her own. Which was refreshing. I also loved the setting and the Hispanic feel to it. The whole series was spectacular. I can't believe it took so long for me to discover it.

Recs for non-religious books about grief

I'm hoping you can help. My Father in Law has been in ICU for a little over two months and tomorrow they are making the decision whether to continue care and I believe the decision will be to not continue. DH is not religious at all and has never experienced a loss. I know he's been reaching out on the internet to read some articles about grief and whatnot to prepare himself but I was thinking maybe there's some type of self-help book or grief counseling type book that I could also get for him to help him out. FIL has MS, epilepsy, congenital heart failure, and most recently they found a blood infection. infection in the leads to his pacemaker, and lung cancer so things are not looking good and no one believes he'll be able to recover. I, of course, don't want him to die but I do want to be prepared if it's the case.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So I've never seen the web series, but I just saw that there's a book based on the web series coming out this summer and several of my IRL friends who watched the series are super excited about it. Is it just my ignorance talking, or wouldn't the book of The Lizzie Bennett Diaries just be Pride and Prejudice?
