Has anyone ever done this before? I feel like I need a major break from finding a teaching job. The only problem is that I don't have a ton of experience in other fields. I worked at Gottschalks for a few months back in 2007 but that's about it. I want to find a job in an office environment just doing some entry level work. Not the most exciting but just something I can build on if I need to. What did you do when you switched careers? What did you include on your resume your employer liked? I have no idea if I'll be successful in finding another job (especially with Fresno County's unemployment at 16.8%) but I need to at least try. ANY helpful tips would be awesome. Thanks ladies!

So, I'm not athletic and have never been athletic but I've decided to do the Couch to 5k program. DH has offered to do it with me, which is probably a good thing because, in addition to not being a runner, I'm also not a morning person and that's when we're planning to run.

I have some questions though, and while I've been able to Google most things, I feel like some of them might be better answered by you gals. If any of you can give me your answers to them, I'd be incredibly appreciative.

1) What style/brand of underwear do you/most people wear while running? I'm very worried that whatever it is will wind up being a thong if it doesn't start out that way, if-you-know-what-I-mean, or else will wind up rubbing things the wrong way.

2) I read something on a website mentioning some sort of chafing cream. If chafing a common problem you should do something to prevent or is it more of a problem you deal with if you find it occurs? And where are we talking about here? Is there something I should know?

3) Any advice/tips/things I may not have thought of that you can clue me into? I remember reading some joke (cracked.com?) article about running that terrified me with talk of bowel issues and bloody nipples. I assume these are problems for real runners and not people simply working up to running 5k, but ya never know what you don't know, so any heads-ups are appreciated.

TIA!!!

Yesterday some friends and a few close family were at my nephew's 1st birthday party at a VERY local Mom's Group meeting place, called "The Field House". It's pretty much set up exactly like a daycare/preschool. Anyways, so while the festivities were happening, a couple of adults, myself included, were standing out in front chit-chatting and socializing. All of a sudden, as I'm walking back into the building, I hear yelling. There's a man and woman having a very loud argument about 30-40 feet from the Field House in front of a park that is directly next to the building we were in. All of a sudden, the man punches the woman in the face, and when she rebounds her head from the hit, he slaps her. My first instinct is to call the police. My phone was dead, so I ran inside and said "someone call 911, there's a man beating up a woman outside by the park"...did anyone hand me a phone? Nope. EVERYONE instantly said "what? where?" and ran outside. I'm frantically looking to anyone to give me a phone to call the police, but instead am left alone in the Field House because all the parents want to watch the whole thing go down. So I run outside as well, still asking people for phones...and no one is giving a crapola that this poor woman is being beaten in public. Finally, one of the mom's at the party (whom I had just met about 15 minutes prior), has her phone in her hand and it looks like she's dialing 911. Then she yells "I'm calling the police! Take it somewhere else!" So the guy rushes to his car, gets in, and speeds away. The woman, still crying, goes to her car, gets in and drives away. I actually said "Don't say that! Don't let them leave! The police need to get him!" After the mom said what she said I said "Oh good, you're calling the police" and she said (verbatim) "No, not really. I just didn't want that stuff in front of a kid's birthday party. I'd rather they take it somewhere where we don't have to see it" WTF!!!!?????????

I find it thoroughly disgusting that I was the ONLY one who actually cared enough about a stranger's well being to call the police, and everyone else either wanted to move it out of their sight (out of sight, out of mind), or watch. Finally about 5-10 minutes after the couple left, a Dad called the police and handed the phone to me for details about what happened and the vehicles they were driving. I felt incredibly alone in trying to do the right thing, and everyone looked at me like I was an alien for wanting to help.

I understand that what happened wasn't OK in front of a toddler's party, I get that. But at the same time, what that man did is NEVER OK. At the same time that the kid's don't need to see that happening, they also needed to learn that when you hurt someone like that, there are consequences...and if you're ever in need, someone will help you. Maybe I'm totally on the soap box with this, but I just found it sickening that only one person in the entire group was willing to call the authorities and help the poor woman while everyone else wanted to watch. It feels like violence has become a spectator's sport.

We'd been engaged for just under 2 years (which I spent much of on the Knot). Just over 10 years ago, we met in person for the first time. Today I'm being taken to some mystery place 2 hours away. I think I know where we're going, but I'm pretending to be oblivious.I'm looking forward to quality time with my sweetie.

I should also report that I have another interview. Now he's married with three kids and man, he's like a totally different person. He's so negative and cynical constantly. Anything you post he's got a downer of a response. He doesn't like any book or movie you mention and always finds a way to trash it. I think I would have rather remembered him the way he was.

Got any FB friends like that?

I know I am late, but I have a confession. Right now, I absolutely HATE my job. DH and I planned to take Sept 1-5 and go camping. Labor Day is Sept 5, so I would really only be taking Sept 1-2 off, and one of those days could be a floating holiday we get from work. 6 months ago when I requested the time off, it was approved based on my job duties needing me the end of the month. Well, 30 days ago my job duties changed due to the company switching programs to manage our accounts. We are still in the process of the conversion so I have to work in 2 different systems. Now I am absolutely need in the office the first 3-4 business days of each month. So until at least the end of the year, I have to be in the office the first week of the month, 2-3 days after the 15th of each month, and the last week of the month to handle the necessary billings. UMMMM WHEN THE HECK CAN I TAKE VACATION?!?!?!

So the ONLY vacation we were going to take as a family has now been cancelled. I can't even change the days to be after Labor day because I have mandatory Lions meetings the 2 days after Labor day.

I am so p!ssed right now. Thanks for letting me vent. You can comment if you wish, but don't feel obligated. I just needed to write my feelings down since DH is tired of listening to me yell/cry all week.
