Where to go for my birthday?

As much as I don't want to celebrate, DH wants to go out for a nice night together and I figure it's a good idea. I don't want to break the bank since so much money is going to fertility treatments right now, but I'm sick of our usual places (PF CHangs, Miyako, Maggianos) and want to go somewhere new. What are you favorite restaurants around town that are special without being hundreds of dollars?

Re: Where to go for my birthday?

  • Do you like Italian? Zolos's in downtown Franklin near the Starbuck's is really good. It is also a very small restaurant & is very romantic.?
  • Tin Angel, Bound'ry, Antonio's (Italian place in Bellevue), Finezza's in Belle Meade.

  • Sol or Red Pony in downtown Franklin

Or that place in the Factory (can't remember the name off the top of my head...)

  • I was thinking Sol (my new fav restaurant), but I think we're going there w/ my parents Sunday night (my bday is Mon)...

That place in the factory that replaced the flying horse or the one inside? I can't remember the name either, but I've always wanted to try it - I'll look into that!

    Thanks!

  • Boxwood Bistro is outside the factory, and Saffire is inside. It's a nice atmosphere, the menu changes every night.
  • My favorites for not totally breaking the bank are Park Cafe, Bound'ry, Stoney River, and J.Alexander's. Of course, I also love Sol so much I would just go twice in one week. But that's just me ;) I agree with your hubs, take a night and just mentally check out from the crap. Have you seen Bolt? It's reeeally cute and funny. Movie escapism at its best. Hope you have a good time and happy birthday!

  • support one of our locally owned downtown restuarants. SOl and redpony are good. I've always wanted to try zolos but haven't yet. Boxwood Bistro has some good reviews and I love Saffire
  • Well, I had decided on Saffire b/c I looked it up and they use local produce and sustainable seafood, but they're closed Mondays! :( Maybe I'll switch Sol to Mon and Saffire to Sunday...but I am going to look into Boxwood Bistro too. :) Thanks!
  • In Franklin./Cool Springs - Saffire, Basil

Metro Nashville area - City House, Tayst, Zola, Park Cafe

  • I also really love Royal Thai

I don't know if they still do it but Saffire used to do 1/2 price bottles of wine Tuesday. We've had some very good wines there cheaper than they are at the wine store.

  • Ooh that sounds fun! Unfortunately I can't drink (yeah not pregnant and still have to act like I am - it's cruel really), but maybe down the road if I ever get to drink again!
  • If you are up for the drive to Nashville, I'd highly suggest Mirror (my perpetual favorite).  You can get a good sized meal for just under or hovering at $20 a plate.  They also have several tapas/appetizers that you can add up/share to a decent sized meal.  Desserts are fabulous too.  Just do yourself a favor if you're on the high and dry and don't even pick up the drink menu.  Just don't.

I also really like City House too.  Especially desserts.

Bound'ry is a little pricey, but the way they set up their menu, you can get smaller portions for smaller prices.

Or if you need to save money and can sit tight until Sunday, do brunch and a day date and make your man make dinner for you.  Brunch tends to be much better quality food than some of these places offer for lunch.

I can't help out too much with Franklin area.  My favorite "fancy" place to eat there is Puck Express :/

  • Thanks girl! I haven't heard of Mirror or City House and we drive everywhere so I will definitely look into those! I can't drink anyway, so that's cool with me! (helps make our nights out cheaper if nothing else!)
  • It can be frustrating finding a non-chain restaurant that is open on a Monday. Our 1st anniversary fell on a Monday and we went to Watermark. The service and food were both fantastic.  I mentioned when I made the reservation the occasion and it was noted in special ways throughout the evening- handwritten card, champagne, etc.

Happy b-day fellow Sag. Party!!!  Mine's Sat.

  • Monell's is amazing, but they would need to roll you out of there. Their Sunday brunch is insane! (In a good way!)
  • I'll second Mirror, it is really good! Plus it is small and intimate on the inside - perfect for a romantic birthday dinner. It's in the 12 South area across the street from Mafioza's.
