When to register?

When will/did you start your registries? I'm only 14 weeks. But some of my friends from home told me and dh to register the beginning of December (or atleast start with our gender neutral stuff) so that if people want I get us stuff from our registries or Christmas they know what we want.
Thoughts?

Re: When to register?

  • We registered when I was 19 weeks.  Originally my shower was going to be January 11th, but it's been moved to Feb. 1st.  But people have hinted that they want to get us stuff for the holidays, so we went ahead and did it.  And now, at least it's done.

In your case, it's still really early.  I would agree with @madeline10L.  I was also so hesitant before the A/S g-d forbid anything went wrong.

  • I started a registry online shortly after we found out :) I was just excited and added little things. Then I added bigger purchase items and other things as I did research and I think I did it in the store around 20 weeks.

  • I started a registry right after the first ultrasound, mainly out of excitement and put boy and girl versions of what I wanted, the after the a/s revised it.

I think waiting until after you know the sex makes the most sense, unless you're team green or want gender neutral stuff, then I say register whenever you feel like you want to.

I am one of those people where something did go wrong at my a/s.  We continue to get things for her from Toys R Us in the mail, even though she's not here.  With P, we waited until after our A/S to register.

  • I like to take my time and research every big decision. We started at around 17 weeks (just doing enough research to even figure out where we wanted to register). Now I'm just over 20 weeks and I'm almost done. It's fun to go though and add/delete stuff. Enjoy!

  • You can register whenever you'd like.  I started our registry pretty early.  I think I was around 12w?  I'd been just adding things as I had time.  I tended to register for gender neutral items or things I knew we'd need.  After our a/s, I added even more.  DH and I went to the stores a week ago and "finished" our registries.  My shower isn't until February 1st, but I wanted it done before the holidays so I didn't have to worry about it and could alter or change things right after Christmas when the invitations go out.

  • Thanks for the input. I think we are going to wait. If people REALLY wanna get us something they can just get us gift cards (hopefully) or just wait until the showers.

  • I started a registry online fairly early. I was able to look at BR things and add them when I got the urge to baby shop. And...as I thought of things I'd like, I'd add them so I didn't forget.

We just finished last week at 24 weeks in store. We waited until "viability" to do the finishing in stores together.

Me, too. I have expressly told MIL (though now I know she either doesn't remember or is going to do it anyway) that I don't want any baby stuff at least until after the new year (our a/s is Dec 18). I was hoping she would spread the word about it to the rest of the family, but I doubt it now, so I'll probably call DH's grandma and let her know as kindly as I can.

Plus--and this is sort of selfish of me--I don't want to get baby stuff for Christmas, I want to get things that are for me. We've mentioned that we need a new garage door opener and a dishwasher (in the hopes of getting GCs towards those purchases), and I have told anyone who will listen how much I love (but can't really afford) pregnancy massages.
My mom actually spent a small part of her budget (as did my sister) on P for Christmas.  So our portion wasn't spent on baby stuff, but they still got us stuff.  But we did also ask for GCs because we didn't need so much stuff for us, but we really wanted stuff for the baby.

  • I registered super early, but it wasn't for any reason other than that it was July it was crazy hot and I didn't have air conditioning.

Babies R Us and Target are both really air conditioned!
