Fitness goals if you're NOT trying to lose weight

Hey, Nesties! I have been thinking about goal-setting recently, but I need some feedback. I feel like all fitness goals these days revolve around losing weight (or training for a marathon, which I have no interest in doing!), but what about goals for those of us who are happy with our weight? I lost 20 pounds a few years ago, and have managed to maintain my new weight. I feel great and am very happy with my size, but I could use a little more toning. I'm just not sure how to make that into a measurable goal. I can't reward myself for something immeasurable like that. I want that "I did it!" feeling without a scale.

Any ideas for drawing up measurable fitness goals that don't involve weight loss?

Re: Fitness goals if you're NOT trying to lose weight

  • I have no idea what you could physically do exercise wise. I recommended getting a trainer. I'm pretty sure they could show you what you need to do to tone up without loosing a bunch if weight/ inches.
  • I'm in the same boat. I could use to loose some weight but I don't want that to be my main goal.

Anything you want to be able to do?
For me I always feel like the weakest woman by far in a group when setting up equipment at work. I want to close the gap, but how to measure?
  • If you're at a happy weight (yay!) you can set a lot of really interesting fitness goals for yourself. Actually, getting away from body statistics (pounds, BMI, BF%, etc) is very healthy in my opinion. So, challenge yourself to work up to being able to do 50 push ups in a row. Or 100. To be able to bench press your body weight. Or squat twice your body weight. Or run a mile in under X minutes. The toning issue will take care of itself if you work consistently toward goals like these.
  • My goal is to get stronger.  I don't care so much about what I weigh.  I enjoy lifting heavy and challenging myself that way.

  • I am very happy with my weigh so I do not do a lot of rigorous exercises, I just walk fast "naturally" and sometimes I jog in the mornings. :)
