I had 40w appointment on Monday and as of 3pm nothing had changed. I was still barely at 1 cm and about 50% effaced. My blood pressure was high (it had been at my 39 week appt too). They checked it after my appt and it was even higher, like 155/96. So off to L&D I went to be monitored. Usually when I get there my BP goes to normal and I go home. Not on Monday! It went up even higher, which was totally starting to make me nervous. My doctor decided to keep me and induce before I had full blown pre-eclampsia.
They checked me around 5 and much to everyone's surprise I was dilated to 3! They still gave me a dose of cytotec to help thin out my cervix. Then the plan was to start pitocin around 9pm. 9pm rolled around and I was contracting every 2 to 3 minutes on my own. So my doctor decided to just let me be and see how things went.
I semi slept between contractions and woke up around 1 debating on when to get my epeidural because I knew I wanted it before my water broke but I had no idea when it would be. I opted to get it then just because I knew I needed some good sleep (at this point i was dilated to a 6). As soon as I went to lay back down from getting my epi my water broke. Talk about great timing!
When the nurse checked me around 5am I was 10cm and good to go but we opted to wait a bit and let her labor down some. The doctor arrived about 6:45am, 2 contractions and 6 pushes later Emerson arrived at 7:03am!
I'm still trying to wrap head around the fact that I had an almost 10lb baby! We are all home and so far doing great! Last night was so much better compared to Caden's first night home.
