Ladies, I need the scoop on the SEC!
Ok, so I'm about to start my first season as an SEC wife and I'm a little nervous about it! I've heard some pretty interesting stories about certain SEC schools and their fans. And I've been known to get a little worked up at games when I hear things that I think have crossed the line. I typically don't say anything or scream or yell or anything, but there were a few schools in our old conference that I'd just have to listen to my ipod during the games to block out the ridiculously rude fans.
So give me the scoop, which schools in the SEC do I have to watch out for? I've seen the published list, but I want the truth! Who do I need to prepare myself for?
I'm not sure which SEC games I'll be able to attend yet...I know we have Florida here and I'll be at probably one of the games, we have LSU, Mississippi, South Carolina and Georgia here and I *may* make the weekend trip to Alabama, but I haven't decided yet.
Any thoughts for me? I'm fine with the usual heckling type comments but when the comments get personal and just down right inappropriate, my blood starts boiling.

In my opinion, LSU fans are the absolute worst. You have your select few from the other teams that are obnoxious of course, but for the most part people are cordial. Alabama and Georgia can get heated because of the rivalries, but usually those games are ok fan-wise.
I didn't think we played Florida this year?
Definitely be ready for LSU, although I don't think there is much preparation that can be done, lol.
We just have them for a doubleheader on April 1st. We aren't doing the full three game series with them this year.

LOL! Yes, Katie, I'm talking about softball...SORRY! I tend to forget that not every single other person in this whole entire world has their entire life submerged in softball 24/7. LOL!

Well I KNOW you well enough to know that but figured I better clarify for everyone else. Ha. My life is submerged by football, track and swim/diving. At least yall have a break!!!! LOL.
Hmmm...I'll let you know when the break happens...because in my 4 seasons as a coach's FI/wife, I've yet to see the break! If it isn't practice, it is recruiting, if it isn't recruiting, it's camps...lol!

I can only tell you my opinion from football, basketball, etc...
LSU fans have always been the worst IMO. It's pretty consistent. I honestly don't think it's even worth mentioning any other schools in the same category as LSU... that is how much worse they are than everyone else.
I can't speak for the softball fans, but I can give you my impressions in general:
I think Tennessee fans should be put on a huge island in the middle of nowhere. I hate TN fans. They are SO obnoxious.
I really don't have a problem with the LSU fans. Sure, they'll insult the heck out of you, but then they'll turn around and feed you gumbo or something.
I generally think that most SEC teams have very cordial rivalries. Sure, there are obnoxious fans at every school, but for the most part, it's not terrible.
It's TN fans that are the exception to that for me. Sorry if anyone here is a TN fan!

i've never been to a softball game but i've been to gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, swimming/diving and of course football. My only bad experience with obnoxious/rude fans has been the football fans and the worst IMO is LSU. Every other sporting even seemed pretty tame
when we went to LSU in 07 my friend in the band said they got cussed out, when we were walking towards the stadium some guy looked right at me and said Fvck you, we couldn't even play mini-golf in peace.

From what I've heard about other schools and conferences, the SEC is fabulous! I've heard some pretty terrible stuff from a friend whose FI was an ACC football player.
LSU fans can definitely be obnoxious, like pp's said, but I really do think for the most part the SEC is pretty friendly. Kind of stereotypical nice Southern folk
Overall...Georgia fans are the best! Ok, I'm biased.
I'd say TN fans are the worst no matter what. Stupid obnoxious orange "T". I don't know much about the softball fans. But mose SEC fans in general are real hardcore about their team.

I'm a huge Bama fan and I agree with Ren Tennessee fans are so obnoxious. I dated a guy that was a UT fan. I bought him tickets to the TN Vandy games 6 or 7 years ago and we went. We were in the stands, I was taking pictures and crap and this guy hit me (felt like it broke my nose but it didn't). I wasn't doing anything wrong. I didnt have a UT shirt on so I guess he thought I was being rude or something. He was drunk and I had a miserable time. That's not the only encounter I've had with UT fans.
I also think LSU fans are bad. I know at football games (esp this year) they spit on Bama fans threw drinks on the and all sort of other things. I don't think softball will be that bad but you never know.

I won't even begin to tell yall my horror stories w/UF and LSU fans......... I can't even repeat some of it on here.
I think every team has their obnoxious fan here and there.
Heather, I don't think you're going to see anything at the softball games though. It will be mostly AU fans that attend the home games.
You'd be surprised. Softball fans are some of the worst. Seriously. Those old men REALLY get into it. I've seen mine far share of fights at softball games between dads and random old men fans. I'm most worried about going on the road to other schools.

Oh it isn't that big of a deal. I was just curious which schools I need to keep an eye out for. Or at least bring my ipod to and make sure that battery is fulled charged. LOL!
