So things didn't exactly go as planned last night. ?I can now honestly say that I have NO backbone.
?
I don't even know where to start. ?First, I had to remind him that I was there over the summer. ?Now, granted, he's a busy man, but at least breeze over my chart before you walk in. ?But whatever, I let that slide. ?I refreshed his memory as to why I was there.
I then show him my charts and he actually chuckles when he sees that I'm temping. ?(OK, now I'm a little offended)
?
He has no idea how to read my charts. ?(Dude, if I can do it, you can do it) ?We go back and forth for about 10 minutes with me explaining why it says I ovulated when I did, what the DPO numbers mean. ?I told him about 15 times when my last periods were and how long my cycles have been.
?
Annual - I'll spare you those details
?
Go into his office to talk again. ?He tells me that temping is most likely stressing me out, and although I can continue to do it if it makes me happy, I should just relax.
Now here is where my heart breaks - "Keep trying for another 6 months and if you're not pregnant, then come back and see me. "
I asked him many times if it's normal for my cycles to be so long and how likely it is for me to get pregnant with such long cyles. ?He basically said I'm not the only woman with long cycles and I should be fine. ?He said that if I come back in 6 months he would refer me to SJ fertility.
So now is where I need advice. ?Part of me thinks I'm just being impatient. ?The more than the other part of me thinks that have 3 periods in 7 months (one forced on by pregesterone) is NOT normal and can't lead to healthy baby making!!!! ?So I'm trying to decide if I go somewhere else and get a second opinion. ?Someone who can actually read and interpret charts and is a little more open to other suggestions than "just wait". ?So if anyone has any suggestions/recommendations I would love to hear them. ?Or if you think I'm being ridiculous and impatient - PLEASE tell me!!!!?

Re: Update - need advice - long
IMO... I would go to another doctor. Whether it be a new OBGYN or an RE - you need to see someone who is going to listen to you and be proactive.

Oh my gosh, I say you should go to another doctor too. Not all doctor's are so cold. There is no excuse for him not breezing over your chart before walking in. No matter how busy he is, that is his job.
I went through a good deal of nonsense myself, and once I found the right doctor, I was mad at myself for not switching sooner.
Go see another dr and tell them you have been trying to get pg for a year now. That seems to be the magic word. That is what I told my dr and then he referred me to SJ fertility. Does your insurance require a referral?? If not just call SJ fert and make an appointment. I think at this stage you should DEFINATELY see an RE. How old are you? I tend to think that they didnt stress the one year of trying to get pg with me because I am in my thirties. Really long cycles equal really late or no ovulation! That IS going to make it harder to get pregnant.
I would suggest seeing another OBGYN (if you need a referral, if you dont, skip the middle man and go to SJ Fert!!) and either lying or stretching the truth. Tell them you have not been using birth control for a year, you have been charting for a year, you have been using OPKs and timed intercourse for a year. If it is a lie, so be it, if it is just stretching the truth do that too.
My chiropractor always says to me (when he asks me how the baby making is going) "Never get in the way of a woman trying to get pregnant!"
Myself and other girls here go to SJ fertility and am impressed at how proactive they were! They are not wasting a single cycle and starting me on Clomid and the IUI this cycle (if it ever starts). So do all you can do to get moving forward.
Good Luck!! Keep us updated!
I would go to another doctor. I'm not sure how long you've been trying, but I thought if you were under 30 you had to try for about a year before being referred to a specialist. However, since your periods aren't normal then maybe they should refer you sooner?
Good luck!
I am sorry that you didn't get the answers you wanted from the ob. he sounds like an old-schooled arse!
I would get a second opinion. I don't think it is normal to not have regular periods, and I think you should see a doctor that tries to figure out why that is not happening, and help you get pregnant.
good luck!
I would get a new doctor... now. ?It sounds like he isn't listening to what you are saying at all.
Sorry you had to go through that. ?I had trouble with the gyn I used to see when I complained that my cycles were getting longer and longer. ?It wasn't until I didn't get a period for 90+ days that they referred me somewhere else and did blood work. ?I should have spoken up sooner but I know it's hard to argue with the person who is supposed to be the professional.?
What an A-hole, JMO...I would run the other way to a better doctor and get another opinion, especially one that won't make you feel stupid. Check out

a bunch of us on here go there, they are great, I see Dr. Mcrosson (woman early 30's has two boys under the age of 4 and Dr. Richman (man 50's really funny)
good luck and don't let any doctor push you around it is YOUR body!
I would get a second opinion.
Follow your gut, its the best advice I could give anyone. I wish I did years ago when my doctor told me that my not getting a period was 'bad luck' and that I was normal.
GL, I hope that a new doctor can be more aggressive and maybe give you something to induce ovulation.
I would definitely go get a second opinion and not go back to that doctor.
After 3 months of trying my OB had me temp for 3 months, at which point she looked at my charts and said well as we suspected you are not ovulating and I can do no more for you and referred me to an RE. We did 6 months just to see if my body was having trouble regulating coming off the pill.
There is definitely something going on to only get 3 periods in 7 months and really you could count that as 2 because had you not taken the progesterone to get one. And a doctor who doesn't understand the charts is ridiculous and not knowing what DPO is too. But then again many OBs really their job is to check you annually and deliver your baby.
I highly recommend switching OBs.
But waiting a year is bs...at the same time.
Many insurance companies will not cover infertility treatments until you have been trying for a year. But when I went to my RE, the insurance lady just told me to lie to the insurance company when they asked haha! And that's all I did they asked have you been trying for at least 2 years (my insurance wanted 2 years) so I said yes. Whatever, we knew I had a problem so I was not going to let some stupid rule keep me from getting the coverage I deserved, so look in to what your insurance covers so you know what you need to say.
Do you need a referral to go to an RE?

Do you need referrals for your insurance? or do you have an open access plan??? I was unhappy witht he care i was getting after my first m/c by my ob...i hadn't had a period in 4 months and he kept telling me to "wait it out"
I have a ppo insurance and do NOT need referrals so i called the RE and made an appointment...i completely bypassed the OB.(whom i kicked to the curb)..The RE said it is NOT normal to not have a period for that extended period of time and he was glad i made the initiative(sp?)
If i were you and you didn't need a referral just call and make an appointment w/the RE...Most OBs do not care for charting and will blow you off...Please do NOT lie about how long youhave been trying it will falsify your medical records..
I guarentee if you call an RE's office speak to one of the nurses and tell them about how long your cycles are they will tell you to make an appointment...GL...
I should clarify...I wasn't saying lie to the RE, but the insurance company may not pay for coverage until it's been a year...and in my opinion...lie all you want to the insurance company haha.
My RE knew how long I had been trying, but said in order for me to get coverage my insurance required you be trying 2 years.
I agree w/ JinsWifey if you go to another OB you shouldn't lie to them about how long you have been trying. Just give them the facts. Or if you have a PPO like Jinswifey said (what I have) just go straight to the RE.
