Hi! I'm a 2L at Richmond Law this year. That's great that you're going to be starting here in the fall! Do you know where you're going to be living?

Re: ***S<3J***

  • Hello! Big Smile We're going to be living in Glen Allen since J will be commuting to Cville for a while at least. Afraid to try to change jobs right now in this economy! It's going to be nice to be back in the Richmond-area again. I am really excited and scared at the same time if that makes sense, lol. Any advice on surviving and succeeding in the 1L year? I've heard the 2L year is a lot better since you know what you're doing by then. Do you know what kind of law you want to go into?
  • Glen Allen is nice. DH and I live out at Short Pump. I totally understand not wanting to change jobs if you don't have to!

1L year is definitely a lot of work. But you'll survive! I'll have to think about the best advice I've got and that people gave me...

2L year is better than 1L. I want to do criminal litigation after school. I worked in public defense last summer and I'll be at the Richmond prosecutor's office this summer. I want to be a prosecutor when I graduate.

Do you have any idea what kind of law you like?

  • I am honestly not 100% sure..I am interested in so many kinds of law, lol. I am considering criminal litigation as well, that is one of the areas I am interested in...I was also thinking about maybe some other area of public interest, but I also like real estate and international law. What a collection of topics, right? Tongue Tied Hehe. I know I want to help people somehow (corny sounding I know) and I want to do that through the law if that makes sense. Are a lot of people involved in student organizations or does that slow down a lot during law school since people are so busy?
  • People are pretty busy around here. There are trial and moot court boards, law review, legal journals, clubs, flag football teams, student bar association, honor council basically anything you could want to do! I'm involved in the moot court board, the trial advocacy board, the honor council and I'm actually in charge of orientation this summer. So I'll probably meet you then!

I think a lot of people come in unsure about what type of law they want to practice. You take a wide variety first year so you can kind of see what you like the best.

I totally hear what you're saying about helping people with your law degree. I feel the same way. And there are lots of ways to do it!

  • Hello again!

Sounds like you're definitely involved in a lot! That would be awesome if I got to see you this summer, I'll definitely be coming to orientation. Ahh it's not that long from now! Our goal for moving to Richmond is to do it by June 15 (or at least get the apartment and get started moving lol)..so hopefully we can make it happen. All depends on money at this point (have to be able to afford to pay half of that first month's rent on top of our current rent in addition to paying the two rents in July). I'm guessing you're heading into finals now, so good luck on those! :) I am almost done..will be done by next weekend (2 more papers and 3 finals to go). Do you find a lot of people still have a job for over the summer this year? I've heard a lot of places are cutting their summer programs..Tongue Tied Anyway, thank you again for being so helpful! Smile
