>=O houses are not exempt from murphy's law...

So... dh and I went to the house last night to finish up some painting we had been doing, and we had been there for probably around 30 mins when I went to put something in the laundry room. I opened the door to find fresh, huge water stains on the walls, and then found a puddle on the floor. We got up into the attic where the water heater is, and there is a 2 foot ring around it where the plywood and insulation is saturated.

>=O

Then DH calls today to talk to the home warranty people and they say that they won't cover it. I could slap a b!tch.

  • Oh my goodness, AM!!  I can't believe that.  Did they say why they wouldn't cover it?

  • Crisis averted. I called our REA and she told me what to tell the HW people. They're sending out a contractor this afternoon :)

IMM, I notice something new in your sig.... exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes you do...I am very excited about it!!!

I am glad that your realtor was able to help you!  I know that I would have been bawling.  Right after DH moved into the house (maybe 2 weeks after we closed) a tree fell on it.  Luckily it was a small tree and it seemed to just "lay" over in the wind so there was no damage, but I was freaking out.

I'm glad that y'all are going to be able to get this fixed, and not have to deal with paying for it later.

  • Oh, I was boo hooing last night.... and really mad. I tried calling our REA and my parents and NOBODY was answering their phone, and jason's parents are in Savannah right now vacationing... His dad would have been the first person we would have called. We had no idea WHAT to do.

  • AM, I'm so sorry!!!  Did the home inspector or you see this or see that anything was wrong when you did the inspection and the walk through?  I hope it all works out!!!

    GL!!!

  • I'm really sorry that you had to deal with that.  It totally stinks, but at least they are going to fix it.

I was thinking the other day that we need to do another Bham GTG!  We've got to get together eventually.

Our inspection came back perfect... So this is a new problem. He even specifically checked out the water heater and the hvac. Thanks girl!

  • ok, only trying to help (so keep that in mind) as I HATE that this is happening to you as soon as you moved in!!!!

BUT........ I would go back to the inspector.  That sounds like a huge problem and if there was one lingering they should have caught this.  Especially if you get stuck with any costs outside of the home warranty (keep this too, it's only like $30/mo and worth it for first time homebuyers).  I would check that out (the inspector) and ensure that it was thoroughly looked at (the cause/prob itself).  I hope this makes sense as you haven't even had it but what a week!!?!?!?!?  and am just thinking of ways to help/protect y'all.

I'm not an expert by any means..........

I hope they can fix it ASAP!!!!

What is wine down Wednesday?  I think it might sound fabulous!!  And the Tavern at the Summit is just a hop, skip and a jump from my office so that would be easy for me to do!
