How do you get in with Darrell Ellis? Can you just set a skin cancer check with him or do you have to get a referral? ?I've had a few dysplastic moles and am supposed to get checked every six months,?but my DH is at Vandy for grad school and our insurance only covers Vanderbilt doctors (I used to go the Gold Skin as I mentioned above).?It's been two years so I am very late. I know, bad. Let me know, please. Thanks!

  • Well, like I had mentioned, one of the other dermatologists had told me to make another appt with him that was covered under my original referral (I had student health ins. at the time).  But the student health doc also suggested I make the appt with him directly too.  I don't think you need a direct referral from a Vandy dermatologist just to see him.  You just need to square away the referral for insurance purposes (should not be hard to do).

If you want to make an appointment with him, call the Vandy Dermatology Clinic and talk to Connie (or Dr. Ellis' nurse, tell her you have dysplastic moles too, so you're less likely to get punted to another dermatologist).  Unless Dr. Ellis got a new nurse, she is solely in charge of booking his appointments.

Good luck.  That reminds me that I need to get my referrals going and make my appt :/.
