*Hello, I'm in Houston, but this email came my way through my local Flyball club and I wanted to cross-post this and get the word out!*
My name is Laura Bates and I work at Kennel Kare (the OTHER location on North Pearson Ln. , not the one we practice agility at.) This past Sunday, we had a HUGE rush of people picking up and dropping off their dogs. Because of this, we had people lined out the drive and our front office was packed full.
After about an hour rush, I glanced out the front window and noticed the most beautiful dog just sitting in the drive, enclosed in a wire crate with a full bag of food and a note on top. Immediately, I had a gut feeling she had been dumped, but asked anyone in the office if the dog was theirs. A lady mentioned that the people she saw getting the dog out of their car had driven away. So, they dumped the dog on us.
I went and read the note and her "owners" said they are experiencing set backs and please help. I took her out of the crate and she just came right up and licked me in the face.... I started crying just because at that very moment, she had no one --- except for me. I was all she had. I work with rescue all the time but her case has just touched me. To make a long story short, I have convinced my manager at KKI to allow her to stay with us until I can find her a home.
So, here is what we know about her (and there are pictures below.):
Her name is Shadow, she is (from what they said and what we can tell) a full Dutch Shepherd or Dutch X German Shepherd mix. She is absolutely stunning (and that's coming from someone who is picky! lol) with the brindle coloring on her face, ears, and legs.. and a black saddle-back. She is 9 months old, spayed (she still has the fresh scar), and up-to-date on vaccs as far as I know (most vets wont spay w/ out vaccs.) She is extremely stable, handling the whole situation in stride (even the new boarding experience.) She already knows sit, horribly SWEET, and is in beautiful condition. We have been socializing her and although the Great Dane kind've made her uncomfortable with his big size, so far she seems sociable. She needs room to run, and someone experienced with herding/shepherd type breeds, but she isn't hyper by any means. She is a thinker, and from the note the owners left, they said she is great with kids. Our knowledge of how she acts day in and day out is still limited, but if I did not have four dogs myself, I would take her in a heart beat (again, coming from someone who is picky!)
If you are interested, or know of anyone interested in her or someone RESPONSIBLE that is looking for a new dog, please send them my way. She will be free of charge and come with everything that they left her with... a large wire crate, a pillow, ceramic bowl, leash, collar, and an un-opened bag of Ol'Roy (though we will probably dump that... we aren't big fans of Ol'Roy, hehe.)
Please please PLEASE cross-post - you have all the permission in the world - but please realize we will be picky where she goes. She needs a stable, permanent, forever home!
