Blackberry compromise...

We are due for a new cellphone plan soon. DH pretty much has his heart set on the Blackberry Storm. I'm really struggling to wrap my mind around the $29.99 charge that comes with a Blackberry.

Any suggestions on compromise?

 

FWIW - DH currently has a standard LG flip phone without any internet access or anything like that and we would probably end up going with Verizon, but could hold out another 3 months until the end of the contract and go with another company.

And, I know jack about phones - I'm happy with one I can talk and text on! I work on the internet all day, I don't need it on my phone too!

I had the storm and I loved it. The only reason I don't still have it is because my employer finally got me a BB. If you stay with Verizon, they will charge you here and there for every little feature you use a phone for. For example, I think it's $4.99 to check your email on your phone, plus $$ for navigation, etc etc. Just pay the $29.99 and get all the features you want!

However, if you're seriously considering changing carriers, I can't speak to their alternatives.

eh...most people I konw who have the storm hate it with a passion.  Has he gone into the store and played around with it to see how it works?  Another reaso what BB stinks is the enterprise charges. I think that's what you are mentioning with the $30??  Unless he wants to access email that's on a corporate server, I don't think he needs that- just the regular internet/data plan. 

When i switched from BB to iPhone, I saved ~$50/month. The internet/email are faster / easier to use than the BB interface.  See the numerous threads on this board about why people love their iPhone.

I only paid $30 total for the data package with Verizon. It wasn't an internet/data plan PLUS $30 for the BB service.

ETA: If I could switch to AT&T and get and iPhone I probably would. Everyone I know is on verizon so I'd have to double my minutes and it would cost me a lot more.

This is my situation exactly. My whole family is on Verizon so I'd kill myself in charges on the iPhone.

FWIW...there are rumors of a new Storm being released soon (I think).  I haven't been playing as close attention to the "storm 2" rumors because I hate touchscreen phones.  You or your DH might want to check out Crackberry.com for information before you purchase something.

My husband works for Verizon, we got 2 storms as soon as they came out and replaced them with in a week. Low battery life, SLOW, on and on and on. There is rumor of the Storm 2 which is an upgrade for all of this. If you are wanting a BB, its not touch but I hear the BB Tour is great. Also Envi Touch my friend really likes.

Make no mistake I hate Verizon...I count the days until someone buys them out but all my friends and family are under the thumb of the verizon beast. My son wants At&T so I am putting him on that plan next week. If I was not so hook on my 8830 I would cut this thing loose.

Have you looked at the Bold or even the new Curve? If he really wants a touchscreen then I would check out the website that pp posted to see when a new release of the Storm is coming out.

Everyone I know how got a Storm says that the Curve is better.

 

I recommend the curve.  and my pink curve just came in the mail TODAY so I will let you know how I like it!  My H got his curve a few days ago and has been playing with it all weekend.
