Fanciest/hardest/most impressive meal you've made

We're doing NYE at home and I want to try something super decadent you normally wouldn't try making on your own. Lamb, lobster, filet, whatever you got-- throw it at me. Calories don't count. Sides and dessert recipes would be awesome too. I've found awesome stuff online, but I love stuff that you guys have tried. Thanks! :D

Dits except for replace tacos with spaghetti.

  • Filet Mignon with Balsamic Syrup & Goat Cheese

The hardest part is making the syrup because if it cooks too long it hardens up and won't be pourable. The rest of it is fairly easy, but ends up looking fancier than it is. I served it with a salad (baby spinach, strawberries, chopped walnuts & poppyseed dressing) and really good french bread.

ETA: The dessert I made with it was Individual Strawberry Trifles.

    recipes?

  • red meat is usually a lot simpler than you'd think and pretty impressive compared to the effort.  i've done a filet with a balsamic glaze, and the glaze was harder than the meat once i learned how to tell its doneness properly.  garlic mashed potatoes/celeriac (celery root)/parsnips and creamed spinach with bacon or proscuitto are the sides i've done with that.

i used to have a super easy, yummy pork tenderloin recipe with some kind of balsamic reduction, but i've stopped using it as hubs isn't a fan of pork cooked in non-asian ways. this i served on wilted arugula just tossed in a pan with some olive oil and shallots or garlic until just wilted.

    dessert:
    cream puffs dipped in chocolate
cake from scratch is usually impressive in this age of cupcakes.

  • Here are my rec's from my blog...love these recipes.

Filet au poivre -my fave way to enjoy a beautiful steak.

Pork Wellington -simple, fancy, soooo good.

Osso Bucco & Risotto Milanese - very tender, and so hearty. It's sooo good. I bought the veal shanks at El Toro Meats. Also available at Whole Foods.

Tropical Carrot Cake - my fave way to enjoy carrot cake.

    Italian Cheesecake - soooo good

Creme Brulee - who can say no to this dessert?

    Good luck!

  • Steak Au Poivre with Brandied Cream Sauce - my favorite steak!

Pan-Seared Filet Minon - very simple but yummy.

Sauteed Mushrooms - if you make a steak or filet, this is a GREAT side dish!

Ultimate Twice-Baked Potatoes - I love these. I could eat these as a meal all by themselves.

Seafood Gratin - lobster, shrimp, and fish. It's casserole-y, but very, very good!

Molten Chocolate Cake - I love these little cakes because you can make them individually. SOOOOO good!

    2. Pot de creme

    ohhh, I want this recipe!

I can't think of any fancy recipes, but fondue is fun (and really easy).  I prefer cheese but you could do oil or broth with meat.
