So I have an interview on Thursday

It's with a staffing agency that has a position open, but she didn't give me much information. This is something. We'll see how it goes. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Re: So I have an interview on Thursday

  • 1. What do I wear? I don't have a suit that fits. I have this dress from The Gap and this dress. I also have plain black trousers and several sweaters. Is that professional enough for an interview? I really don't want to go buy a suit because I know it's not something I'd wear frequently, especially a maternity suit.

    2. What do I do about references? I don't feel comfortable using people I worked with at my last position since I don't feel like I left on the friendliest of terms. It would be different if I left voluntarily. The references I used when I got the job 2 1/2 years ago have long moved on to other positions, and I'm not in contact with any of them currently. I don't even know where to start and reach out.

  • Did you buy a Bella band (or the Target one)? If you could use that to get into one of your suits for a few hours, I would go that route. If that wouldn't work, I would do the black pants, a nice maternity shirt, and one of your jackets. You can leave the jacket unbuttoned and look professional still.

As for the references, do you have any peers at your old job that were nice and would give you a good review? What about people you associated with at your different sites (office managers, etc)?

  • That's great news about the interview.

    Ditto peer and client references.

  • 1. If the first dress is in grape then no.  I know purple is big around here, but no.  Do you have a blazer available?  Even unbuttoned I would put that over black trousers and a blouse.  The black dress would also be doable, but not with the boots the model has on.

    2. Is there anyone at your job that you feel comfortable with asking?  Someone on the same level or even below you would be fine.  I also agree with site managers or other people you did work for.  Unless your peers have worked with you, skip it.  What about a service organization or volunteer place?  Any events you've helped on?

  • Oh- congrats on the interview!
  • Good luck on your interview!

This was what I was thinking.  Or the black trousers with a nice preggo twinset.  Pearls (for clutching) optional.
