my endless summer looks so sad!  We planted it about a month ago and doesn't seem to be growing, I water about twice a week if it doesn't rain (which it hasn't lately) but it just looks very puny.  I think maybe I should amend the soil with some compost?

How sad is sad? Does it look wilted?

I would amend the soil and see if that helps. Did you prep the soil before you planted it?

no we should have though, but we were in a hurry and all of our perennials were coming up in that bed just fine so we thought the soil would be okay.

it is not browning at all, just kind of wilted looking.  It is in part-shade like the tag recommended.  Could it be the temperature?  It's still been 40s at night, but no freezes since we planted it.  

I will add some compost this weekend.

Its kind of early to plant hydrangeas.  I wonder if the cold could be affecting it.  40s is still pretty cold and hydrangeas should be planted in early summer.

I got it at a family nursery, you'd think they'd tell us that!  Also saw them at Earl May.

I can return it for a refund if it dies, but hopefully I can keep it going

What's your soil pH?  Hydrangeas like a more acid soil (although not as much as rhododendrons), and if your soil is alkaline they won't do very well.

After you water, do your leaves become unwilted? I'm in Maryland and it is still getting about that low at nights and mine that I planted 3 years ago is doing very well.

Did you break up the root ball when you planted it?

How are you watering it? I usually turn my water on really low, so the water comes out of 1/4 of the width of the end of the hose, and leave it run for about 30 minutes.

I have to water mine a lot more than 2x a week.  In the summer I have to water every day or they start to wilt.  I thought mine were dead after the crazy winter we had but they are back and ready to start blooming.

it is raining a good amount today and the plant looks much happier and perkier now!  Maybe I didn't give it enough water.

My endless summers need a ton of water, especially the first year.  I think I watered them every day the first year they were planted.  If I didn't water every day, they would get all wilty and droopy looking.
