Ideas for baby's 1st birthday party in Chicago

Our townhome is too small for a party of 50 people - and WAY to many stairs for the little ones to run around.  Any ideas of places that would be fun for those w/o kids?  I was thinking renting a tent and having it in a park, but the process of applying for permits for tent, booze, etc just seems like a pain. i'd need an event planner!! I guess if anyone has a cheap good event planner, that'd be great too.

thanks!

Re: Ideas for baby's 1st birthday party in Chicago

  • Do you have a community clubhouse where you can rent the room?

OR a family member who is willing to open their backyard to you for the party?

What about your Village rec center?

  • City or suburbs?
  • Thanks for the ideas.  I'm in the city as are pretty much all of our friends, so we don't really have anything like that and both my husband and my parents are out of state!  I looked into doing something in one of the city of chicago parks, but it seems like a total hastle/disaster to get permites etc :(  I may just have to have a smaller party and try to get everyone in our house! I looked at renting a conference room at a hotel, but that seems to get really expensive really quickly!
  • in the city - we live in lakeview
  • A few ideas:

    Family Grounds Cafe

    Kid City

    Pump it Up

    Hobbitland

    Little Gym

If you want to serve alcohol, your best bet will be to call restaurants and find a place with a private room.  That will be costly though.

  • Depending on the weather, what about Foster Ave Beach?  There are always people near the beach barbequing with family.  May need to arrive early to stake out a spot.  I don't think you need a permit to gather at the beach; though 50 people may be a lot.

  • We live in River North and our building Kingsbury Plaza, rents out their party room - it's all set with a full kitchen, large screen TV and tables, couches, etc.

Not sure the occupancy will hold 50 - but that's your guest list right? Probably looking at 30-35 actually showing up.

I'm sure a park would be nice too!
