Do any of you have any recommendations of what to use to get rid of the japanese beetles that are devouring my plants? I would like to not use chemicals if possible but they are getting so bad so I would consider doing anything at this point!

Re: dang japanese beetles
Traps.
Be sure to put them at least 50 feet away from the plants you're trying to protect and empty them when they start to fill up--the smell of dead beetles repels the live ones.
We have them too, and while they aren't as bad (yet) this year as they have been in previous years, they still drive me CRAZY. They are on the raspberries, roses, bee balm, clematis, and hibiscus.
We have a relatively small lot (50'x120'), and with the way our gardens are laid out, there isn't a good spot to put a trap.
I have been hand-picking them and dumping them into a cup of soapy water at least twice, sometimes 3x a day. The only good thing about japanese beetles is that they're slow and dumb, and really only care about eating and copulating (is it weird to call them hedonistic?). They are really easy to knock off.
We have considered getting the shop-vac out and sucking them off of the plants, but they haven't been that thick yet this year.
