So what are the "winters" like here?

I know this is a strange question but Old Navy Maternity is having a huge sale with some really cute capri pants, tshirts, and light sweaters.   What are the winters like in LA?  I'm clearly going to need some new clothes, but I'm not sure what I should be buying (and don't want to spend a ton of money).

Temps in the 50-60's?  Will I need a winter coat? Is it mostly jeans and sweater weather?  Thanks for the help!

  • During the Winter, temps can vary from the 50's - 70's but it depends on the area. It will definitely be good for you to have a coat. You can get by with a few long sleeve tops, sweaters and jeans but it depends on how much clothes you feel you need. I just bought two pairs of maternity jeans and I think that will be enough for me to get me through most of the pregnancy.

  • Great, thanks for the info.  I did bring a few coats in the move so hopefully I won't have to get a new one.  I'll definitely have to invest in some maternity jeans... I just don't want to buy a bunch stuff that I can't wear.

  • Remember last week when it was cool and rainy? That's winter in LA. I wear long sleeved shirts and corduroy pants in the winter with a little jacket (waterproof one for when it rains) and that's about it. :)

Well, it's like that "sometimes." That's sort of how winter is- some cool, some rainy, some (especially Christmas day and New Years Day) pretty warm. ?A coat or two should suffice. generally for me it's light sweaters or long sleeved shirts. I don't know anything about pregnancy shopping though?

  • Technically, the average high in January is 68. I usually layer from about late November until February/March. I have a pea coat and a few heavy cardigans for when I leave for work in the morning, but I never wear a parka or anything. But then, I'm from the northeast, and while my blood has thinned a bit, I don't get cold too easily. However, I find light sweaters or t-shirts with light jackets to be totally appropriate for winter. Sort of like the clothes you'd wear in early fall or spring anywhere else in the country!
