Hiya & Birthing Class Recs

Hallelujah, I can get on TN at work!  I've always been too scared to try and get on, but I'm at lunch now so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I miss everyone sooo much!  Update me PLEASE!

Sooo...I'm 23w5d today, and I'm freaking out about how close I am to third tri.  We have been sooo busy this semester (I graduate in two weeks), and we haven't been able to really start preparing for the baby.  I looked at a to-do list on TB and HOLY CRAP there is a lot to be done.  Does anyone have any birthing class recs or tips on how to find a good class?  I'm open to any area really, but the east side is preferred...

Happy Friday, ladies!  Big Smile

Re: Hiya & Birthing Class Recs

  • YA!!!! I've sure missed you over here! I didn't take any birthing classes because I felt for $75 I could probably learn everything from others who had just recently had babies. Your OB could recommend one, but since you don't like your OB, contact the hospital you are planning on delivering at.

As for TB checklist it is so overwhelming and gave me panic attacks. I didn't do a lot of the stuff on there until the end. My only advice is pack your hospital bag before 34 weeks (as you know I've told you all about this!). I didn't register until 3 weeks before my shower. In fact we ordered our crib the day before Brady was born! Try not to focus too much on the checklist and what you haven't done yet. I guarantee you you're probably way ahead of me!

Can't wait to see you soon! Left Hug

Thank you so much dear!  I will absolutely call the hospital; my doctor is such a jerk - I try to avoid talking to her at all costs!  LOL

And OMG yes to the panic attacks!  I started going over it and I was just like, "OMG OMG OMG!"  Casey was not nearly as concerned.  Men!

    *hugs*

if you really hate your doctor, you really should switch ob's. there are going to be things out of your control, like biitchy nurses at the hospital and stuff like that...but something like a doctor where you're able to pick, i definitely would switch if i weren't happy.

and on that note. the "class" i took at banner was a freaking waste of money. you can learn everything they teach you, if not more, by watching the discovery channel. our teacher was like 95 years old. there honestly wasn't a single thing i learned in that class i already didn't know. but, i did A LOT of research before i got pregnant, and knew what to expect. if it makes you more comfortable, i probably would take it. if not for you, but maybe for casey, since guys don't really understand a lot of that stuff.

next time around, i plan to take a class like hypnobirthing, or bradley class.

and the bump's list for anything is out of control. their list for what to take to the hospital is nuts. people had babies just fine before all of these lists were made. you will be totally fine, try not to stress about it. everything will work out Smile

  • I didn't take a class but my hubby and I read through Natural Childbirth the Bradley way by Susan McCutcheon (sp?)

Really easy to understand and helped my hubby get into it.

Really I think it depends if you want to go natural or not.

I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have Wink

now put up a new belly pic or else!

For real if you don't like your OB, switch. Stacy has a great MW and Dr. Kells is great (www.drkells.com)

  • Like PP said, contact your hospital to see what classes they offer and to schedule a tour of the birthing facility.  We did a birthing class and newborn care class through Mercy Gilbert.  They weren't the greatest classes, but I'm glad we took them- it was nice having any extra knowledge they could provide and being able to ask questions.  In the end I probably didn't end up using any of the techniques, but it was great knowing what the tools were, why they were doing certain things and all of the possible things that could happen.  Also, check with your insurance provider, sometimes they cover the cost of the class.

Don't stress over getting the nursery 100% done-- I think I've set foot in the actual nursery maybe half a dozen times since Deegan was born, we do everything in our room since the pack 'n play is in there.  I use my nightstand to hold his clothes and everything.  Like PP said, pack your hospital bag by 34 weeks, you never know!!

    Good luck!

  • The reason I am sticking with this OB is b/c their office is verrry close to my work, and I had a hard time finding female OBs that work downtown and deliver in Scottsdale.  AND I already changed once; I loved my first OB, but they were in Scottsdale and the scheduling was a big problem.

Thank you for all the input!  I've missed you all so much!  I'm so glad that I can get on here during the day now, b/c my nights and weekends are crazy right now.

And I will put up a belly pic when I get home, I don't have any on my work computer.  I have one on FB and a ton on my blog though!  :)  I think I finally had my second tri growth spurt during the week.  Wooo!  No more of the "You're sooo tiny comments"  lol

ETA:  Christina, Lucy is getting so big!  And her hair is getting so long!  She is just the cutest little lady.

Erin, congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I saw you post below and Deagan is absolutely beautiful!  Big Smile

  • then tay, it might be weird but i'd at least voice your concerns (in a nice way). there is no reason for you to feel uncomfortable around your ob, or be afraid to ask her questions. that's horrible.

(i'm not trying to sound rude or anything, but i just can't imagine it's a pleasant experience for you, and it should be, kwim?)
