First Prenatal Visit Question
Hello Ladies,
I have my first doctors appointment on Monday the 24th and I am trying to get a list of questions together that i should ask at my first appointment. I was wondering if any of you momma's out there had any advice for me. I am so anxious/excited for this first appointment!
TIA
Re: First Prenatal Visit Question
I didn't ask anything. HAHA I was too excited, already knew the jist of what to eat and what not to eat, etc. Plus, she went over a bunch of stuff too and gave me a big bag with a lot of information to read.
Good luck, it's VERY exciting. Sorry I couldn't be more help. lol
No you are plently of help, so far you have answered all of my questions lol. I mean I feel like I have the basic knowledge of like you said, what to eat what not to. But I wasn't sure if there was something BIG that I was missing haha
I am sooo excited for this appointment. It feels like I have waited forever for it but now it is almost here and I can't wiat!
I didn't make a list until the day of...lol
I'd ask when you can expect to have your big anatomy scan u/s. Some docs say 18w, some say 20w. Two weeks is a big deal!!! lol
Can't wait to meet my baby boy!
I knew stuff before going in since it was in the books and the doc was pretty thorough in the exam about giving info too.
My doctor has an ultrasound in his office that he would do u/s checks with each visit ending in the anatomy scan @ 20weeks, although he did make a guess @ 16 weeks what the sex was. If everything was good at 20 weeks then no more ultrasounds unless something was wrong or needed closer monitoring. Not all doctors have this capability though, my friend only gets 2 ultrasounds with her pregnancy - the initial and then the anatomy.
What the policy was for meeting the other practitioners in case my doc wouldn't be available for delivery. Good thing I met the other two doctors as my doctor ended up not being on call when I had Aiden and I was glad I had met the other two and felt comfortable with any of them delivering the baby.
And one of the more important questions I wish I had asked (maybe not the first visit but definitely before the time came). Was what their policy was for inductions and nearing due date completion. Some doctors will induce at 39-40 weeks, others will make you wait until 41-42 weeks. I didn't find out until I was at 39 weeks he was going to have me go til 41 weeks before discussing induction. I wish I had known that a little earlier. It wouldn't have changed my decisions, but it would have prepared me a little better to be in for the long haul. (At least A decided to finally come on his own).
My doctor didn't give any handouts or anything out, but I found info online, but it is sometimes helpful to know what medications, particularly over the counter, you can and can not take while pregnant.
Have a happy first appointment!!
these are the questions i thought of to ask a long time ago...some may or may not apply hahaha
Questions to ask:
I do not want to know the sex of our baby!
How can I tell if the symptoms I'm having are normal?
What do you recommend for morning sickness?
I groom/cut our dogs hair, is it safe to do so?
Am I at high risk for any problems during pregnancy?
What tests or procedures do you normally recommend in pregnancy?
What do you recommend for normal pregnancy aches and pains?
Who are your back up practitioners? When might I see them? Can I meet them before the birth?
Can I drink green tea? Matcha tea?
Do you routinely use interventions in labor or do you wait to see if they are needed?
At what point to you talk about the artificial induction of labor?
I would like to continue my hot yoga practice. What are your thoughts?
What are your vaginal birth rates? For first time moms?
No clue what you should ask, but YAY!
So excited for you guys!!!!

hehe thanks We are soooo excited!
Congrats to you as well, have you made your way to the september 2011 board yet? There is a great group of ladies over there. I am anxious for our first ultra sounds though, I will probably then have some peace of mind that baby bean is doing exactly what he/she should be doing at this point.
I'll have to check it out! I am still kind of in a state of shock, but YAY!.Let us know how the appointment goes
LOL i was the same way, until i took the fifth test then it kind of settled in a little bit more. How are you feeling?
I will def let you know how it goes
It's weird... I started feeling nauseated today. Like rumbly tummy, no puking. I bought ginger, bland food, and am loading up on fluids. You?
I am feeling good, just tired mostly, I haven't felt sick at all so far so I am hoping that continues. I have had a couple headaches though from a lack of caffein. But no major complaints. I hope you feel better and the ginger and bland foods work
