I'm sure I'll laugh about this...

...someday.  DH and I have both had horrible colds complete with sore throats, coughs, lots of sinus pressure and drainage, chills, body aches- the whole nine yards.  We both slept in today by accident.  I went to the bathroom in our basement to take a shower and DH had to leave before I was done.

When I got out and went to go back upstairs, I found he had locked the basement door on me.  My only choice was to walk barefoot in my pajamas in the snow around the house to see if he had left the front door unlocked.  But he hadn't.  I went back in the basement and started to panic because both of the kids were still upstairs in their bedrooms and I couldn't get to them.  To make matters worse, there was no way I could yell to get DD's attention to get her to come unlock the door because I have laryngitis and, hence, no voice.

I tried calling DH's cell phone over and over again hoping to catch him and have him come back home to let me into the house, but he didn't answer.  When he finally did call back, he was walking downtown and since I had laryngitis he could not understand what I was saying.  I strained so hard and had to repeat myself over and over again until he finally understood what I was saying.  If I had thought about it at the time, I would have texted him but I was pretty upset at that point.

He ended up running home and letting me in.  I don't know if he ened up being late to work- something that he could be reprimanded pretty seriously for this first week.  I'm just so thankful that I had brought my cell phone into the basement with me b/c I don't know what I would have done otherwise.  Probably would have had to run to the neighbor's house barefoot and write out a message asking them to call a lock smith on my behalf.  Ugh.

Re: I'm sure I'll laugh about this...

  • You'll definitely laugh about that someday, but not today! What a crazy morning!
  • I'm thinking someday it will be funny, but that someday won't be anytime in the near future.

  • Oh what a morning and what a story!  Definitely funny one day, but not today for you. It can only get better though, right? Thank goodness you had your phone with you.

  • Oh no!  That's horrible!  I hope you laugh about this sooner than later.  Feel better soon.
