commuting

We signed a lease on a place in Chandler. I'll be working in Tempe and the commute seems reasonable. How far do you ladies commute? Eventually, we will purchase a home and right now it looks like there are really affordable homes in places like Maricopa, Queen Creek, Glendale, etc. Does anyone commute that far? Is it awful? I'm used to a pretty short commute, but am wondering if it is just a frame of mind and I need to shift my thinking.

Re: commuting

  • Well I live in Surprise and work in Downtown PHX and my hours are pretty decent hours 6 - 2:30 so I avoid most of the traffic.  It takes me 45 minutes each way now but if I leave work an hour late it takes me an hour at least depending how bad traffic is.

  • I live in Litchfield Park and commute to Tempe.  It takes me between 45 minutes and an hour but I avoid a lot of traffic simply by the route I choose.  I don't really mind the drive.  I have SO much flexibility in my schedule because I am out in the community a lot.  If I worked a straight 8 to 5 schedule I'd probably not be very happy.

Chandler to Tempe should be pretty easy.

  • I live in Phoenix the Foothills area and work in Scottsdale, it takes me 35 minutes both ways. I work 6 to 230 and miss the traffic which is nice and having freeway access helps a lot.

  • If you work in Tempe I wouldn't move to Glendale. That would be a very long commute, especially if you have to commute during the rush hour. Maricopa and Queen Creek aren't bad, but I would stick with Queen Creek. There are parts of Queen Creek that are still in Maricopa County so the commute wouldn't be bad.

I live in E Mesa and work in Ahwatukee. The commute would be about 35 minutes if I took the San Tan 202 the whole way, but since I have to drop DS off at my moms, I take Elliot so it takes about 45-60 minutes.

  • Thanks ladies! Next year when we start thinking about houses, schools, etc. I'm sure I will be asking questions about neighborhoods and such! Lots of stress getting us to Phoenix, but looking forward to living and working there.

  • I live 20 miles away and it takes me around 40 minutes to get to work each way during light traffic.  unfortunately they are changing my schedule to high traffic times, so i have no clue how long it's gonna take me.  =(
