Moms - come in!

What is your favorite diaper rash cream. Alana has her first rash and I just can't get rid of it! We always put vaseline on in between diaper changes and if she got a little red I'd use A&D, desitin, or butt paste. None of those are working. I feel so bad for her. We've stopped using wipes and are just blotting with a warm cloth and baby soap. The pedi also told me to put 1% hydrocortisone or monistat on it.  I had a sample of the lansinoh diaper rash ointment so I put that on with the last diaper change. We'll see if that helps. I also have another sample of balmex and I'll give that a shot.

What are your favorites?

Re: Moms - come in!

  • I've used everything you mentioned and the instances when Ava had a case of diaper rash that was making her miserable, I let her hang out diaper-less and I gave her a dose of infant ibuprofen to help with the pain.  I kept her greased up in the meantime.  Hope she gets better soon, I believe diaper rash clears up pretty quickly.
  • Ditto Rag.  Open air is the best for raw tushies.  I'd put DD in her pack n play with toys/snacks and cover the pad w/a waterproof pad and old/sheet.

Also, try pure cornstarch powder (Johnson's) - you can find it with any butt cream stuff in the baby aisle.

Be sure you are NOT using any Johnson's baby bath products/soaps on her bottom - they are notoriously bad for having ingredients that dry out baby's skin, which could be irritating and complicating her diaper rash issues.  Using plain water will do just fine.

Are you sure it's just diaper rash and not an exterior yeast infection?  If it persists, ask your dr. b/c she might need some vag cream for it.

  • When Macy had a round of diarrhea she broke out with the worst diaper rash and we couldn't get rid of it.  Her pedi recommended that we sparingly use jock itch cream.......I can't remember the brand off the top of my head, but it did the trick.  I should mention it was the jock itch cream that had "D" on the end of it.  But I would check with your pedi first.

GL and I hope Miss Alana gets well soon!  Poor baby!

  • Beckett used to constantly get diaper rash REALLY bad. I tried all sorts of things and all the brands of diaper rash cream, including a perscription cream from the pedi, but nothing really worked for him. Once when it was really bad, someone suggested getting Bag Balm. http://www.amazon.com/Bag-Balm-1oz-jar/dp/B000KAYONY It cleared up right away.

Its an ointment that has been around forever (that can be used on cuts, sunburns, chapped lips, etc.) and is an amazing cure for diaper rash. We began using it all the time, as a preventative, and he literally never got diaper rash again. You can buy it at places like CVS, although it's not in the baby section. I think it's with the moisturizers. It is seriously a miracle cure.

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I'm not 100% sure it's not yeast related, but the pedi told me to give it 3 days from the time we talked.

She's currently cutting about 3 teeth so she's getting ibuprofen as needed.

Next thing to try is open air. That should be interesting. lol

    Thanks again!

  • When none of the creams seem to work we do an oatmeal bath and it helps immensley!!  You can google the exact directions but all I did was buy the quaker oats and put them in the food processer so that it makes almost a powder.  Then you just sprinkle in the bath and stir it around.  They say to let them stay in there for a good 15 minutes or so.
  • Butt Paste works for us! You can buy it at target
  • Use a cream that SAYS it is a triple paste.  It works better than the others!
