BF Moms.....

I am going to try to get to Target tonight to complete my registry. I was wondering if any of you have & USE a Boppy nursing pillow. Does it really make it easier or can I go without it. TIA

Re: BF Moms.....

  • I am not a BF mom due to medical reasons... BUT I use the Boppy all the time for bottle feeding. Mostly first and last feedings which are in the glider in his nursery. It makes holding and snuggling with him much easier Smile

  • I used our boppy pillow multiple times a day up until Macy was about 6 months old.  I think it was worth the money!

  • I had a reg boppy pillow and that helped until Aiden's acid reflux come about and I couldn't lay him down to feed him. That was back when I was bfing of course! lol

    I love my crazy child!

  • It's one of those things that some loved and others didn't use. Personally, I loved mine. I used it for BFing, and it was kind of like training wheels. It made it easier while BFing was hard (i.e., the beginnning).

I also used it for helping her sit up before she could, tummy time, and lots of things.

I didn't buy mine brand new, though. I bought one at a consignment store, and I bought a brand new cover for it. (I got the nice soft cover at PBK).

  • I did not get one last time, because my cousin told me not to bother. I think I would really liked having it for breastfeeding and totally regreted not getting one. (Why I didn't just buy one at that point, I have no idea.) Then my cousin who gave me this advice began using hers once her son began sitting up and decided she loved it.

I will absolutely be buying one this time.

  • I used mine multiple times a day for probably over a year.  Loved it.
  • It has been a lifesaver for me! Not for BFing but it sort of "holds" the baby up and you can put Lila down for a minute without her being flat on her back, KWIM? It helps my LOs fall asleep then I can slip them into their cribs. It is great for bottle feeding, too.
  • I would set every Boppy in the world on fire if I could.  ;)  Okay, maybe not.  They aren't evil or anything, but I hate them.  Kind of like how I hate wipe warmers and Bumbo seats.  It's part of my charm.

Either way, I never had one, never needed one, never wanted one.  I have two arms that did the job perfectly.

  • I LOVED mine. I still use it sometimes actually. It's nice when I'm trying to use my arms to do something and she's nursing. It enables multi-tasking. :)

This is where personality comes into play.  I cherished the BFing connection and  time so much that I would have never wanted to multi-task while BFing.  Having my arms full of newborn baby goodness was totally worth the time, every time.

  • Thank you all!!! I think I will be buying one. I am kicking myself in the butt because I saw 2 of them at TJ Maxx for $20 but it wasn't the pattern that I wanted and I couldn't remember how much they were in the store, so I didn't buy it. I came back the next day after realizing they were $35+ and both of them were gone. :(

  • Some women swear by the My Brest Friend pillow, too, which I think provides more back supporting while BFing. I love my Boppy, though - it made our positions more comfortable, and like PP said, it can be used for much more than just feeding.

For nursing a newborn, I completely agree it was a very special bonding time and I wouldn't trade that for the world. However, I had a baby that would cluster feed for 2 hours every night because I was gone all day and was making up for lost time. Sometimes I needed two hands to study while she was just comfort sucking. Plus, nursing a toddler is so much different. With being a doctoral student... Sometimes I just need my arms now! I wish i didn't have to multi-task, but such is life.

  • Love the boppy!  It was helpful with all feedings (including bottle) and it helped her sit up too.
  • I love mine! It gives my arms a break and I can sit her up in it too. Of course I only have a few days experience with it, but so far I like it!

I did too! My OB gave me a magazine that had $10 off your next order with Amazon coupon, I just bought mine for $24.99! :) Not too shabby.

  • I have bigger breasts so the boppy pillow didn't really work out for me. I used it when he was a tiny newborn, but then it became easier just go without it. That being said, the boppy can be good to help your infant start sitting, it can also be good for tummy time when they get a little older. So it's not a complete waste if it doesn't work out for BF-ing.
