AU fires Tony Franklin??

Anyone else heard this? My phone just started ringing off the hook about it! I found this online: http://www.oanow.com/oan/news/local/article/franklin_fired_as_auburn_offensive_coordinator/40169/

Im headed to the game this weekend... could be an interesting one if this is the case!

Re: AU fires Tony Franklin??

  • My dh just came in and told me we are fixing to listen to Paul Finebaum.

  • YES! I personally think it's about time...that mess that's been happening out on the field is definitely NOT Auburn football!!  I just hope it doesn't hurt us in the middle of the season.

  • I'm surprised they did it mid-season.

  • Me too.... but we can't possibly be any worse without an O coach than we were with him!
  • i saw that on al.com about 10 mins ago..can't say i'm sad to see him go.
  • "be careful what you wish for"

I don't think this is wise middle season with recruiting going on.
It's sad for his family too.  Even though fans think like fans - it's still a job to him and unfortunately in any job you can be fired at any time.  So I feel bad for him.

I also think we need to back our team in good times and bad.  MANY teams can relate to having a few bad seasons.
We look like 2003.......... if that's the case, and what is to follow I'm ok with - look at 2004..............

just my 2 cents worth and now my DH will be at work pretty late.....

NO ONE saw it coming he said.  Plus the rumor mill is going crazy as usual.

  • I'm just reading all of it now...wow.  I'm not sure a mid-season firing is the best way to go, but something had to be done.  That offense was a disaster.

I wonder how much Chris Todd will play now?

  • I agree with you Katie!!  I think we should stand behind our team in good times and bad times.  Not every season can be a great season!!!!!  I am sorry your husband has to work late now Sad  Hopefully the craziness won't last too long!!!

  • Yeah.. Katie.. that was one of my first thoughts. I bet it's a busy day for Katie's husband!

It's always interesting around here when juicy news breaks about UA football. It gets like a mad house and then the whole sports department and all the editors end up working late.

  • Totally agree with you Katie...in good times and bad time fans should stick behind their team.  And yeah I agree with you about if this is a season like 2003 then I can totally handle next season if it is like 2004 Yes

Sorry your hubby has to work late!

    War Eagle!!

  • even though i said i'm not sad to see him go (nor ecstatic because like was previously stated..it's not good for recruiting), I do feel sorry for the guy..i think it's very tactless of someone to post pictures of the guy loading his stuff into his vehicle after the fact.

  • People were shouting this on campus all afternoon..every time the door to my office would open, I could hear kids outside yelling it and telling everyone. It was wild! Having a husband who is a college coach, I know how rare and difficult it is to fire a coach mid-season, however, after I found out what really happened, I understand why they did what they did. Not saying it is a good thing to do and that things will get better from this, but what happened needed to happen.

  • I defnintely think if you are a true fan you will back your team no matter what.  I think there was some sort of division in the team from the beginning, they just didn't seem to have it all together.  I'm not saying it's all TF's fault, but apparently there was something going on behind the scenes that the public will never know.

I do feel for his family though, bc I know what everyone will be saying to try and humiliate them....and most of it will probably just be rumors! That's the sad thing about this....IMHO I think they will be fine in the financial dept.  But remember these are just MY opinions!  Big Smile

  • Thanks yall, you all are too sweet.  Brad didn't get home til about 45 min ago - phew, that makes for a long day when you work long hours right now as it is (Lydia, you know all too well).

Yes, it's sad and it could hurt recruiting.

I FULLY support my team in good times and bad and my life's happiness doesn't depend on the success of them either.  Heck it can't with how enthralled we are in it as a family!!!!
Not to mention, you can't be good every year and people need to understand that.  Our expectations get high b/c we've done so well.

Again, I feel bad for his family.  I was telling Amy if I got fired I'd be escorted out by security and cops b/c of the industry I'm in.  Brad said its not rare for them to show him "packing" up.  While I don't like it hopefully this will blow over soon and AU will move on and recover and do well.

    Just have faith!!!!

    WAR EAGLE!!!
