st patricks day

Do you guys do anything: wear green, go out and drink green beer, make an irish dinner?

I typically wear green, but that's all.
I've never been out to drink green beer either.

This year, I'll be at the tattoo place again w/ Don for his second session then I think we're going to ON to get him some shorts since they're having a "Give and Get 30% off sale."

Re: st patricks day

  • J's mom's side of the family is 100% irish, so it's as big as x-mas in their family.  We all usually get together at the same irish restaurant/bar every year and eat dinner and drink a bit.  This year is the first year J hasn't had class in 2 years though, so we might go out with friends or something.

  • I'm always wearing green, thanks to my shamrock tattoo, but I will be wearing my green scrub pants and my care bears scrub top that has little shamrocks on it.

  • I always wear green.  I've always wanted to drink beer, but around here none of the bars serve it, boo!  I'll probably go out with my cousin and have a green cocktail.

  • We usually wear a little green - nothing overboard - and go out for Guinness at the local Irish place.

A local radio station does Shamrock Fest where they have a bunch of good bands and tons of green beer at RFK stadium on the weekend before Paddy's Day.  We've been to that a few times, but missed it this year...

  • as a non irish jew and someone who really hates all the annoying drunk people out on this holiday, i do nothing for it.

its my dads favorite holiday as he LOVES his corned beef and cabbage.  and in college gerren and his friends would get up at 7 am and drink alllllll day (please see: another reason i dont love this holiday).  in CA there were a few irish pubs we would go to with our friends to listen to the music, have some corned beef and a beer, etc, but nothing crazy whatsoever.

  • Before college, I honestly did not know that people 'celebrated' St. Patrick's day.  I used to wear green to school so I wouldn't get pinched, and in elementary school we might decorate the classroom and have snacks or something, but that was it.  Jeff's school did a PLAY every year and his town has a parade - CRAZY!

Getting drunk on St. Pat's always annoyed me in college, because most people aren't Irish and it always seemed sort of lame.  Jeff's family is Irish so maybe I will honor my new family's heritage and have a Guinness.   Jeff's older brother pretends to be super-Irish and gets all dressed up for St. Patrick's day, so I know he'll be doing something insane.  Some people I work with are traveling to Boston and Philly (two different groups of people), which blows my mind.  It's a Thursday!

  • I always wear something green. There's always a big deal made back home with the parade, tennis tournament, 1k, 5k, and 10k, arts and crafts festival and whatever else. I say every year that I'm going to Savannah to see the green river and go out all but never do.

I usually just wear green too.  Back in the day (pre-engagement), I'd usually go out w/ the girls for green beer and a little hell raising.  Nothing super special though.

We also have a radio station that has a big show, they call it Kegs & Eggs.  Apparently that's an Irish reference.  I've never gone, cuz it's always actual St. Patrick's day at like 7am.  Don't really want to miss work just to get piss drunk first thing in the morning :)

  • Last year some co-workers started drinking at 8 am.  Maybe 9.  A local bar was doing $1 Guinness all day.

  • K is Irish, and so are a couple good friends of ours, but about the worst we usually do is homemade corned beef & potatoes for dinner.

I remember in Elem School, one of my teachers put green gel footprints on the walls & ceilings to make it look like leprechauns had been in our classroom overnight.  *completely random thought*

  • All of our local St Pat's stuff happened last weekend (including a riot in which MANY people were arrested). I usually go to the parade (which is mostly about police and fire depts here) and have gone out drinking once or twice. This year, I'll just wear green and probably make car bomb cupcakes and guiness beef stew.

my parents used to do this!  like in the most insane way!  there was green writing on mirrors (lipstick), flipped over furniture, little footprints, glitter everywhere...i LOVED it!

  • My mom never did ANYTHING for St Patrick's day.  I usually didn't know when it was.  In fact, it wasn't until college that I found out it's the same day every year - I never noticed, and it always seemed to sneak up on me.  I thought it was one of those 'second Tuesday of the month' kind of things.

  • This is my first st paddy's without my Irish last name:( Growing up we would always go to my grandparents for corn beef. Now we usually just go to the restaurant we work at (irish) and drink some green beer. I don't eat their corn beef because I am VERY picky with my corn beer

  • When I was younger, I always took the day off and went to the bar with friends but it got old or I got old. I now consider Thanksgiving Eve, St. Pat's and NYE to be amateur hour. I am always wearin' of the green and decorating the house though.

MFD always takes St. Pat's off and travels around to 5 or more bars in the area playing Irish music.

We do Guinness roasted corned beef along with boiled cabbage, potatoes, carrots and parsnips the week of St. Pat's.

This year I will spend most of the night cleaning. I wish I had a small army of leprechauns to do it for me while I counted their gold.
