Ick.

Today is not turning out well. My coworker called out yesterday because of a family issues, which escalated today and now she's not returning for the rest of the week. Which means I'm practically tied to my desk until she returns. I can't go out to get lunch, take checks to the bank or even pee because everyone else will just stare at each other confused if the phone rings.

Then I find out I have to drive to our corporate office alone next month. The one thing I said I never wanted to do is that because I absolutely hate highway driving and its 3.5 hours of it. I'm not driving my own car because I don't want to put the mileage on it and I'm a big whiny baby about driving a rental because, well its not my car and I'm not used to it. And I need to figure out what to do about the fact that even with a new contact rx, I still can't see for schit at night.

So combine those two things with PMS, being over tired and stressed and all I want to do is curl up in bed with chocolate and cry.  Waaah!

I really have no point in this post other than to share, so commiserate, tell me to suck it up, or something. :)

Re: Ick.

  • I am definitely not going to tell you to suck it. I would hate to drive by myself for 3.5 hours. Especially at night. I hate to drive at night, I also can't see so if I don't know where I am going, I am SCREWED

  • ugh, i feel your pain.  i not only hate driving at night but im really not supposed to (seriously, blind as a bat.) so i would tell the company "guess what, your paying for me to get a hotel for the night down there.  sorry."  i also used to have to drive 3 hours each way to get to my factories in CA and i had to do it like 4 times a month.  HATED it.  my poor car :(
  • I think I may have a better chance of getting it rescheduled than getting a hotel. Besides, if I got a hotel, they'd expect me to drive the 3.5 hours home and then still come into work that day.

Coworker that I was supposed to go with just asked me if it was okay I was driving. I said "its probably fine going there, but the coming home part is the problem. Unless, you know, we're planning on finding a chauffeur for me."

I even looked up trains which would be cheaper than a rental car and gas, but then I'd have to rely on someone from that office to fetch me at 8:30 am and they don't even start business hours til 9.

  • Suck it up and tell them, hell no I won't go!   LOL.

But seriously, that sucks.  I wouldn't want to drive 3.5 hours, I wouldn't want to take my car either.

Why don't you take the rest of the day off to think about it?  Go get a bottle of wine and some chocolate and go home.  I bet then you'll feel better.

I hope it works out for you.

  • Deb - I wish, I need a vacation day something serious. But then no one would be here to answer the phones/run the office. I have a call with them at 12 so I think I'm going to mention rescheduling since my whole sight at night is equivalent to catching a ball blindfolded. But I do have chocolate and wine at home, so maybe tonight.
