Has anyone tried using ladybugs to control aphid populations? Does it work well? My raised-bed veggie garden is under attack! There are ants and pill bugs ("roly-polys") as well.
Re: Aphids & Ladybugs
Lady bugs work, but they will also fly away.
You can spray the aphids off with water or try an insecticidal soap spray or Neem oil.
Ants and pill bugs (which are actually crustaceans like shrimp) don't hurt your plants.
I've read that ants "farm" aphids, so if you can control your ant population, the aphids won't thrive as well.
I have a Green Clean book that suggests cinnamon or cayenne pepper as ant repellants. It also says you can mix one cup borax, one cup sugar, and three cups water, soak a wad of paper towel or toilet paper in the mixture, and put it in a jar with holes in the lid as a trap.
