Hockey & Ice Skating Moms ...

what do you rec for "1st time" skates for a toddler (3 yr old) ...

I know double runners are good to start ...

My brothers (hockey players) seem to think he needs the  best of the best (CCM or Bauer) and I am sort of thinking lets get a less expensive pair for NOW to see how he even LIKES it ... am I wrong?

I see a brand called "American, Little Rockets"   ???

Thanks!

Re: Hockey & Ice Skating Moms ...

  • we just got the ones at Dicks. At the age of three I really dont think it matters, I mean I dont even think my kids had thebalance to even skate at three, If they think he needs the best let them buy it!

  • Kelly ... exactly! I told my one brother knock yourself out buddy!!! HA!

  • I have to look and see what I have for Travis. Corey actually started out in figure skates. After a few months I did switch him to hockey skates which are a totally different feel. Are you leaning towards skating or hockey?
Where in world would you like me to ship you? image My boys - I am so screwed in about 7 years. What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? LIPSTICK !
  • Let me ask....if we go to a rink for a free skate, will the skate's we rent for him have double runners???

I am fairly certain once of us are going to break a hip, but we have to go soon. J is trying to be adventurous and wants to go to Open Skate at the arena. I think he's out of his mind since neither of us have skated in YEARS!!!!!

  • I actually started G on in line skates, the ones from TRU that are adjustable and go over the sneaker. Once he got the hang of them, MH got him skates at target, they were like $40 i think. I think they are CCM. I stay out of it - MH takes him skating and playing hockey and i get quiet time. LOL

  • Our rink does not have double runners, but they do have the walkers the kids can use.  I am guessing all rinks do.

  • we started our kids with skating lessons when my youngest was 3. they didn't allow double runners, or have them available to rent, they both had to learn on figure skates and then just recently my son got hockey skates, for the cool factor mainly.3 years olds can TOTALLY learn to skate...mine did.

  • we have Bauers for Travis only b/c they were hand me downs.  I woudln't go top of the line until he decides if he wants to stick with it or not.  In the beginning they only skate once or twice a week if I remember.

As they get older and spend more time on the ice then you lean more towards better quality vs. more money.
