Hello everyone!
I am currently in the process of moving from Michigan to Alabama. I was wondering if you have any advise or words of wisdom. I guess I'm just looking for what to expect because I have no idea.
Thanks for your help!
Re: Moving to AL
My DH moved from MI to AL 3+ yrs ago. He really likes it here b/c he did NOT like the winter months there!!! He lived in East Landsing as he was working for Michigan State. I can definately ask him more words of advice/wisdom for you!!! My stepdad is also from MI and now lives in FL and loves the south.
Feel free to page me on here as I'm happy to help!!! Do you know where in AL you are going to be moving to?
Welcome to our board too!!!
Katie
It's hard to give advice without knowing what area you will be in.
1) The beach is a day's drive (or less)!
2) No shoveling snow. Heck, practically no snow.
3) There are some rednecks, but we do not fit the stereotype.
4) People say "hi" when you walk past them on the street.
I love it here.
Welcome! You will learn that the people in AL are usually very friendly!
We bought a house in Millbrook and we'll be there in two weeks. My husband has been living in Montgomery for a two months, and I fly back and forth between MI and AL.
I grew up in suburbs of Detroit and have lived in Lansing for the past two years. My husband and I love Traverse City, go every summer for a little vacation.
yep, you are 45 min from Auburn, AL (where Auburn University is).
You will be so glad to get out of the snowy weather - you'll be moving just in time!!!!
I'm from Montgomery! Milbrook is very close. I live in Huntsville now which is in north AL. It gets pretty darn hot in the summers and VERY humid!
What type of job are you looking for?
Sorry, for the other post not sure what just happened. I currently do Marketing for a Credit Union in Michigan. I would like to stay in Marketing, but like I said I haven't found a good job hunting website yet.
Go to indeed.com and search in Montgomery area, also try the regular websites like monster, careerbuilder, yahoo hotjobs, etc. I think there is also and alabama jobs website too - try doing a google search for that.
I work in the financial industry and have worked in the banking industry previously, and you know that that industry is like right now. Go outside the norm - meaning search any area is going to need marketing so just do a basic search and not industry relevant.
HTH!!!!
I work at an ad agency now but we have a lot of banking clients. If you want to email me some of your background i can keep my ears open if i hear anything. jnybrk82 at yahoo.com. at one time i know that Compass was hiring. Also, Regions and Colonial are based in Alabama and we have lots of Credit Unions around here. i have been surprised about positions that i have heard opening up.
I know you don't know me but i didn't want you to post to much personal stuff out here.
That's great, thank you so much. I have been working on updating my resume. I should have it done next week and I'll email it to you then.
Well, looks like you got help with the job hunt. Good luck finding something.
welcome! I live just north of that area but my in-laws live just a few miles from Millbrook!
My family lives near Detroit too! (Riverview/Wyandotte area)
Welcome to the board (and to AL)! I have nothing to offer on moving unfortunately, I have lived in AL my whole life! Sounds like you got some good advice from our other nesties!
Just FYI...something is screwy with the nest and when you click on someone's profile it will say they have your wedding date...when I click your name it says you were married March 8th just like me. I don't know what the deal is, but it's been that way for a while! Aubie (Katie) was actually married on Feb 9th
Hope your move goes well and you end up loving it here! I also live in Auburn which is about 45 minutes away. I have a friend that lives in Millbrook now, they seem to like it there!
I also am from Montogmery. Montgomery has great location in that it fairly close to the beach, Atlanta, and Birmingham. Millbrook is a really nice location. I hope that your move goes well. Everyone is really friendly here. The weather will probably be the biggest adjustment for you.
I am a nurse so I really don't hear anything about marketing jobs. But I hope the job search goes well for you!!!
Welcome! I'm in Prattville, which is middle of the state.
