State Theatre in New Brunswick

Anyone been?

Is the venue nice? How is parking?

We decided to buy Sesame Street Live tickets tonight for April 15th and hopefully didn't make a mistake. Not sure DS will like it or even behave, but we're taking that risk.

Re: State Theatre in New Brunswick

  • we saw YGG there and parking sucked - it was a busy time of day (close to rush hour pm) and had to walk a bit to the parking lot that was further away... there is a close lot that has valet, but it was full by the time we got there.

with one kid the walk wouldn't have been so bad- but i had all 3 by myself (was meeting DH at the theatre) and it was HELL to cross streets, etc :)

the theatre is nice- not too big, great for a kid's show.

Gray hated YGG live... was scared, but Gibby liked it enough, so it was worth bringing them.  Griffin LOVED it... but he was 4.5 then.  The twins were just under 2.5.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • Thanks for the info.  Hopefully a Sunday means no rush hour traffic.

Aaron will be a few months past 2.5 by then and he loved the Elmo's World show at Sesame Place last year (when he was 22 months) so hopefully he'll enjoy it.

  • we saw something there and we liked it. We got their a little early and found parking in the parking garage. We left a little early to beat out some of the crowds and had no issues.

    have fun.

  • Warning!!! During intermission they sell these obnoxious Elmo head balloons for $10!! My SIL bought it for DD once and I wanted to kill her! LOL I have been to many shows there and never had an issue with parking. We have seen Elmo there for the last four years, love that show! Enjoy :)
  • I've been there a few times & think it's a very nice venue although I've never been there for a kids show.  There is tons of parking in NB & a huge lot on Church Street that wouldn't be too far of a walk.  I'm taking Josie there next month for the FBB show.

  • Whenever I get tix to any show like this, anywhere - I make sure to get the 1st showing of the day.  This way parking is empty & you aren't dealing with the 1st show letting out and the chaos from that.

I think he will do fine.  I took Adam to see Nickoldeon Live when he was about 2.5 there & he loved it.

  • Not sure... But my friend from ms/HS is in it... He plays " baby bear" :-) haven't seen him in years, but he keeps posting fb updates from the tour..: sounds like they're having a great time!
  • Thanks for all the replies. We wanted the 10:30 am Sat show but not a lot of tickets were available in the lower sections. So we picked the 4:30 on Sunday because it's after his nap. We'll bring snacks and am prepared to say no to a $10 balloon.

  • Plus side of sundays - parking in NB in the parking decks and public lots should be free. The theater itself is not huge so you should have a decent view of the stage from just about anywhere within it. I think there is a deck across the street by the hotel, as well as one on Church st. which is a couple blocks walk. The Ferren deck further down church street is also just a few blocks walk. There's a few small lots scattered around the neighborhood as well, including one that is directly behind the theater.

We're going on the 14th. I've heard from friends who have seen this before that it's done very well for toddlers and their short attention spans - there's an intermission in the middle, but otherwise, the kids are encouraged to get up and dance. If you're in the first few rows, you're also likely to get sprayed with the confetti cannon.

  • Thanks for the info!  I live in Rockaway and have only been to New Brunswick once before. Good to know there are several places to park.  And our seats are pretty close (though to the left side) so I guess we'll be covered by confetti.
