Valentine's Day ideas for us poor folk?
Since a lot of us are pinching pennies these days, maybe we can have a post of ideas for a cheap but special valentines day. We can share some recipes, ideas from Pinterest etc. Wdyt?
Re: Valentine's Day ideas for us poor folk?
After seeing the price for 4 chocolate dipped strawberries at Safeway ($9.99) we are making these for our family dessert.

We got a large foam board at Dollar Tree which we are decorating to put outside DDs door for v-day morning.
DH and I are using up a gift card for lunch on v-day while DD is at parent's day out.
DD and I made the heart doilies here for out table and picked up some pink napkins and placemats at IKEA for the occassion.

DH was in charge of pink drinks, so he's making Shirley Temples in mason jars we put heart stickers on for fun, and DD and I will probably make some fancy heart straws or something.
For breakfast we'll do heart bacon, heart homemade pop tarts, http://pinterest.com/roxmommy/love-and-valentines/
And we are all exchanging undies - because it is practical and needed but oh so much fun.
Oh, and we made these for school. Way cheap.
I'm making these for valentines for my class. They're super easy and cheap. I'm cutting them out now.
I wanted my class to make valentines for their kindergarten buddies, so they made these and they turned out super cute!
Mostly I think I'll just fancy up whatever I decide to cook. We can eat on china in the dining room with candles. I just don't know what to cook. I wanted to get one of those cute heart cakes from Cold Stone but they cost a fortune so forget that.
I love the idea of exchanging undies!!
I might do this for dessert. I have all the ingredients for brownies and frosting, and I'll just get whatever berries are on sale (in the last couple weeks there have been great blueberries and raspberries).
We don't really do anything cutesy for valentine's day. We just do a simple, typically Italian-type dinner. I think I'll do chicken parm this year. We got dd a small box of chocolate and a Stars Wars figurine.
AugustBride - maybe you could make a layered cream sandwich cake like this:
ice cream sandwich cake
I made this a couple of years ago for my BIL's bday and it was a hit!
we totally did this
we don't really do valentine's day for the adults at our house. never have

I got DH a box of turtles and a card, G a card, a new placemat and some stickers and Hudson a box of Mum-mums. Pretty simple.
I won't get home from work until after 6:00 so we're having calzones and pizza dipping sauce and maybe some ice cream for dessert.
I'm making a Mexican dinner for DH on tues. im making for dessert the red velvet cake with frosting
