Clothing sizing question...4 year olds

I'm very confused looking at spring clothing for the kids with size 5T and kids size 4.  I know all stores vary in sizing but I'm not sure how to shop for the kids at this age.  Any input is appreciated!!

Re: Clothing sizing question...4 year olds

  • I don't understand your question. I would have them try stuff on, it's the only way you're going to kow. If they're tall you might need the 5 but then the waist will probably be big.its an ongoing struggle I have buying for RP - he's tall but fairly slim (but SOLID, he's all muscle) and he often needs length but then I have to really tighten the waist on them, if I get elastic waist track pants, the length is often okay but the waist is too big, but then by the time the waist is okay the pants are too short. Bottom line, just take them tothe store with you, or buy stuff and bring it home but be prepared to return it.

  • Caleb has always pretty much been true to size or slightly on the smaller size. I plan on and have gotten him 5T for next fall and winter. I've gotten a few things for him in a kids 4 and it's HUGE on him. Most likely after 5t the next size I'll buy him will prob a kids 4 or XS.
  • I guess my question is what's the difference between 5T and kids 4
  • 4 is 4T... 5 is 5T..... 4 and 5T don't compare in any clothing that i know of.

i have never found a real difference between the T's and not... but 4 is generally 4yo age, 5 is 5 yo age, etc.... unless your kid is big like my Griffin -- he has always been an "age ahead" with clothing... he's been in 6 for a while, but is only about to turn 5 in march... so you just need to move up from what your kids are in now likely. If they are in 3T now - then move to 4/4T, etc.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • I don't think there is much difference if any in 5T and 4.

I do find that big kids sizing is so all over the place. G has tops from big kids size 5 to 7 and bottoms from 4 to 6. It makes no sense. I have to shop with her now which kind of sucks so I can hold things up to her.

  • I find 5t runs smaller than 5. Bella can't wear a 5t from Gymbo, ON, Gap or Carter's but could fit a 5. Actually, we are starting with size 6 now in all those stores :(
  • I got so confused w/ the 4T and 5T vs 4 and 5 lol...but she is now in regular 5 and some 5T's
  • I am so confused too!

BUT Gymborees 4 is BIGGER than their 4T... wider & longer...

Old Navy's Size 5T is bigger than 4... Better for G

    G is SOLID too...

PJS are an issue. Children's place 5 are great as are GapKids 5T
