baby girl room...color scheme

DD is due and July and I have just not found that perfect inspiration or idea for her room. I would like something that could work into the toddler years (i.e. not too babyish).  I do not have a particular "theme" in mind, but rather would like to tie things together with coordinating fabrics and accessories.

I would prefer not to have a lot of pastels or typical color combos that are used in baby rooms. I have seen some interesting color combos, but nothing has stuck just yet. I am very open to all colors and use a lot color throughout my home. I want the room to be cheerful and fun. While I do want the room to be obviously girly, I do not like the overdone "princess" look (hope that makes sense).

So...what creative color combos have you seen for girls' rooms?

*Bonus points for inspiration pics* :)

  • If DH and I were to have a baby I would do the nursery in blue and grey tones, and if it was a girl I would add eyelet trim or a small ruffle to frill it up a little bit.

I am not a girly girl and I don't like pastel colors either.  My best advice is to find fabric you love, and work from that palette, and add feminine accents and trim.

    My current favorite is this:

I had these 2 pics saved!  I do seem to be drawn to many of the aqua rooms with various accent colors...corals, pinks, yellows.

    Thanks for your ideas!

Very pretty! I am glad my rambling description made sense.  I think it was easier to figure out the room when I was pregnant with DS...and I thought a girl would be easier!

    Thanks for your input.

Bright, light, girly, colorful, and fun but not necessarily baby and NO THEME! That's my "theme."

  • I would head to a fabric store and find some fabrics you love and go from there.
