What are your "to do" projects and what's holding you up?

1. I want to make this bookshelf (or something like it):

What's holding me up?

I don't have a jigsaw. I'm pretty certain I can get the materials and complete within the next month. Time never seems to be on my side.

2. I need to hang blinds in my son's room. The only thing holding me up is time. I am going to go to HD later this week. He sleeps with us and only visits his room (to destroy his train set) about three times a week (eye roll) so it's really no rush.

3. I need to finish a TCU stepping stone I started last weekend. I think I can tackle that one this week.

What about you?

Finish remodeling. The main thing holding us up is that we don't have time to actually do the work except on weekends. So it drags out for months.

  • I need to refinish our coffee table. What's holding me up, me.

I'm being lazy about sanding and refinishing the table because it's been rainy and cold and I don't feel like spending my weekend doing that outside. It really needs to get done though, the finish on it currently is scratching off with a fingernail. It looks bad.

  • 1. 2x wire spool table projects: I need to sand them down and decide what I want to do to them, I need someone to help me get them on the back deck so I have a good work surface.

    2. Dresser makeover: I need to decide on a paint color and start scraping and sanding the paint thats on it.  I can probably scrape it where it sits but I need FI to be home in order to help move it in and out so I can sand it.  No way in he!! are we taking that heavy sucker to the garage.

Anything else: I need more time and more money.

  • I really want to paint our stair railing - just the rail part but I want to add caps to the corner posts and those need to be built. That's the hold-up.

Also, the master bathroom makeover is held up because I'm scared to start it. Sure the counter is ugly now and we only have one sink but what if I make it worse?!

  • Family room makeover. I want to paint the walls but DH had to patch the drywall from where he created a hole when removing baseboards. And that's a couple days' process with skim coat/dry, skim coat/dry and sanding. I switched modes and started with primer on the French doors but the ding-y walls need painted! Still trying to decide on built-ins, wall trim treatment, maybe a crazy ceiling design...so indecision too.
  • Hardwood install in bedrooms
This one is waiting on our floor nailer that we order to actually arrive. Once we get it, I'm sure we'll have other issues (the main one being time since DH is working full time + going to grad school and I am deathly afraid of tools that shoot out sharp objects at a high rate of speed.)

    Master and main bathroom Remodel
This one is waiting on our tile to come in, but we're also a bit paralyzed by the fear of ripping out our shower insert and building up to floor to accept tile. No matter how many youtube videos we watch of the process, we still don't feel any better about it.

    Basement remodel
Not even on the radar until next years tax refund at this point. So this one is definitely held back by money.

  • 1. Landscape project. The rain is holding us up. All day, everyday this week it's supposed to rain:(

    2. Guest Room Makover- sheer laziness is to blame for this one! I have everything ready to go, I just haven't found the motivation to begin painting the big room. Since I work full-time M-F, I know the painting will take up my entire weekend, so it's hard to get excited about.

  • Bathroom -- we need to put up wainscotting to disguise the horrible walls, and install baseboards (one can peer into the basement through the current gaps between the walls and floor).  What's holding us up? Money

Kitchen -- we need to install the lower cabinets and sink that we've already purchased, and redo the flooring (that has holes the size of large pizzas). What's holding us up? Money

Basement -- we need to buy a washer and dryer (ours was ruined when our basement flooded two years ago).  What's holding us up? Money.

Upstairs -- we need to refinish the floors.  They're so bad, you have to wear shoes so you don't get splinters.  What's holding us up?  Yep!...Money.

Ah, I can't wait until DH has a job.  :)

  • We need to replace the fence in our backyard.  What's holding us up is 1) we're waiting for our tax refund to pay for this oh so fun project.  2)  We need to get bids from people.  I've contacted one business who is also the husband of a local nestie.  We'll see what price he comes back with.

Project #2 that we need to do is seal up cracks and paint our living room and kitchen.  The reason why we need to paint our kitchen are in my blog.  Ha.  The color explains it all.  What's holding us up is that we have 12' ceilings and DH doesn't want to paint while DS is at home but MIL doesn't want to volunteer to watch DS while we paint.

  • I have a HUGE to do list - finish painting the outside of the house, do landscaping in the backyard, plant new flowers in the front yard, put brick down on our back patio, paint the master bedroom, start remodeling kitchen and bathroom, finish painting interior doors and trim, put together new desk for the office... the list goes on.

what's keeping me from doing them? time, laziness and money.

  • We have to finish our kitchen and bathroom remodels. The kitchen in being held up by the cabinet installer who called in sick. The bathroom is being held up by the kitchen I don't want to work on it till the kitchen is completed.
  • In our rental, we need to paint the master bedroom walls.  And clean thoroughly.  What's holding us up?  Absolutely nothing reasonable.  We're just lazy lately.

But what we REALLY need to do is buy a house and get out of this tiny rental.  Sadly, however, we're held up by the closing process of our house in Ohio.  We cannot afford to carry two mortgages long-term and although the Ohio house is rented to our buyers, we don't want to buy a home until we are free of the Ohio house - just in case things fall through.

  • The weather is holding me up! I need it to warm enough to open up windows and doors to paint. Without freezing to death. I also need it to warm enough to haul my table out side to redo the finish.

  • I desperately want to repaint our kitchen.  We are currently pricing out what it would cost to have it professionally done.  I know, I know, it goes against the D&R grain, but it's a big space, and it's currently LIME GREEN.  I don't even want to fathom how many coats of primer I am  going to need to cover it up.
