d&r related: explain the word "steampunk" to me
This has been used a few times (Dr. Girlfriend, I'm looking at you) to explain the aesthetics of Restoration Hardware, I think. Is that right? Where did this word come from, or where did you first hear it? Bonus points to you for a PIP of an example of steampunk.
Re: d&r related: explain the word "steampunk" to me
Steampunk to me is any form of decor or apparel that has a Victorian look like 1830's to 1900, mixed with metals like brass, or other hard elements. It is definitely influencing places like Restoration Hardware. Even Pottery barn with its early 1900's style medical cart furniture.

omg, i am so glad i tripped into this post. i don't get on D&R as often as i used to, to and similarly i don't get to watch as many design shows as i used to. my toddler is definitely ruling my time when i am at home!
anyway, i was curious about that description, as well, and i came in after many responded. so, i am thrilled to be "current" in the vernacular again.
I think that is an excellent example. Though sad anyone had to see that crappy, crappy movie!
