beer tasting party for 40th bday?
anyone ever go to one or host one? i am throwing around ideas for my dh's 40th bday, which is later in the year am thinking of doing this, since my dh loves craft beer. not sure if i should do it at my house and rent a tent, tables, make it kind of like octoberfestish, hire music, etc. or have it at a bar. emailing some beer gardens today. but just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas or suggestions for this type of party?
thanks so much!
Re: beer tasting party for 40th bday?
I've never heard of anyone doing this, but it sounds awesome! I'm stealing it for my DH's next big bday
I'd want to do it at a bar only if the bar wasn't likely to get crowded with strangers. I'd want to hang out with my own friends and not have to shout over music and obnoxious drunk people.
I don't think you need a tent, though you could have one if you want it and think it'd be cool. The hard part about doing it at home is having the breadth of varieties to pull it off without having leftover beer for a year. Do you have an idea of how you'd handle that?

Very cute idea! Is there a local brewery you could go to?
IN NYC you can have events at the factory where Brooklyn Lager is made. The prices for a private event there were really reasonable. Not sure what they are now..
The only down side to having your event at a brewery is that they will only feature selections of their craft made beers, Lager, Winter Ale, Harvest Ale etc.
HTH and please let us know what you end up doing! (I like to see pictures too
This woman did it for her husband's birthday and then turned it into an annual Oktoberfest-type party. Also included is a post on a wine party she threw for her mom. I think she used to post on the D&R board. I like her blog a lot.
Maybe I'll do this when MH turns 30 next year, since he's really into craft beer. He mentioned the idea of renting out some good craft beer bars a while back, but now that we have a house he'd probably be happy with a backyard party as well.
Where are you located? You can check out ratebeer.com to find breweries and good bars in your area that might be able to host you, or at least see where you can buy some quality kegs and bottles. I'm in the North Jersey/NYC area, if you want to swap notes on good local places.
