What color would you choose?  I figure I can do something other than just a neutral color.

Interesting question.  I guess I've never thought about painting a closet anything but white assuming I'm just going to use it store items in. Do you plan to do something special with this area?

I just paint my closets the same color as the room they're in.  I guess I'm boring.

I prefer closets to be white.  Mostly because they are such a ROYAL PITA to paint.  I can change the room color without having to repaint the inside of the closet. 

So yeah.  I think I'm just lazy.

The only exception was one bedroom where I was running out of paint and didn't have enough.  That closet is ceiling white.

I don't see the point. My closets are the color they were when I moved in. except my studio, because it has no door, I painted it the same color as the wall behind it.

I prefer white.  As PP said, painting closets is a pain and a clean bright white always looks nice and if you or someone else ever decides to change the color of the room, they don't have to paint the closet.

It never occurred to me to paint the inside of a hall closet.  Ours was always a mess of too many coats and shoes anyway...hell if you ever saw a wall.

A walk in closet, absolutely.  Hall closet?  It would never be appreciated enough to be worth the effort.

My closets are very dark.  I deliberately paint them in a white satin finish to emphasize what little light is in there.

A darker version (at least 2 shades darker as a minimum)  of the color that is in the adjoining room
