More NDR PW-ing ... a cinco de mayo question (food-related)
H and I are going to a Cinco de Mayo party on Saturday. We asked if we could bring anything and they went with the appetizers - chips/salsa/guac.
So I'm going to make Pioneer Woman Pico/Guac. It's a great recipe and is always a hit at a party. But I'm thinking about making my own tortilla chips, because the bagged ones rarely stand up properly against guacamole. Thing is, I have no idea how many would be appropriate to make.
So here's the question. If you went to a cinco party, knowing that there's a FULL meal including dessert, and assuming that the chips, salsa, etc were tasty/to your liking ... how many chips, approximately, do you think you would eat?

12 chips easy. I love good guac. Good luck making your own chips!
I would just buy them from one of our local Mexican restaurants, they make the best fried chips and it's no mess.
This is what I do. Mist with oil, sprinkle with sea salt, bake at 375 to 8-10 minutes.
And yes, I use premade tortillas. I've never succeeded in making a homemade tortilla that tasted as good as the ones I can buy. I'll cut the littlest ones I can buy into 6-8 pieces each.
So 2-3 tortillas per person ... got it.
Baked them too - and I still thought they were a PITA. You really can only do them in s single layer to get crispy chips- so I spent ages in the kitchen arranging single layers if tortilla pieces, misting, flipping and rotating in and out of the oven. I'll never make them again unless I'm just doing one or two batches. Just too time intensive in a large quantity.
I thought Tostitos or another brand sold a thicker more sturdier chip. I'd suggest looking for those.
I would consider buying chips from a restaurant before taking on the task of baking them. I think they are much stronger, and taste better.
There are brands that have pretty strong chips. Not anything made by Frito Lay or any other major company.....look for the smaller, more authentic companies.
