Blue Washout!! Help!!

My fiance and I just moved in together about a month ago, and we absolutely love everything about our apartment. That is...except the bathroom. Like most couples starting out, we're on a tight budget, which means we've had to sacrifice style for price when apartment hunting. The styling of most of the rooms in our new place can be altered by painting walls, and adding furniture, decor, etc. The only room we're stumped on is the bathroom - all you see is blue!

It's not that its exactly an ugly blue, it's just that there's too much. We've considered adding some black accents such as wall decor and/or light fixtures. Our landlord has given us permission to paint, but we can't exactly go about demo-ing the tile. We're going for a sleek modern look and don't know how to incorporate it into this room without making it look odd. We attempted to diffuse the overwhelming lighter shade of blue by adding darker ones with the shower curtain and mat.

It practically fills the entire room, except half way up from the floor to the ceiling is white walls. The tile also extends into the entire shower. We've been given permission to paint by our landlord.  The floors are almost the exactly same shade of tiling with a little of white marbling. What colors could I paint on the walls in this room?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
