Pottery Barn bedding?

We have a $150 gift card to Pottery Barn, and we desperately need new bedding. We plan on getting the whole shebang: sheets, comforter, pillowcases, shams, bedskirt, etc. The only thing we already have is decorative pillows.

So, I love PB. I'm glad we have the gift card, but I've never bought sheets from there before. Does anyone have any opinions on their sheets? They have PB Classic, PB Essential (cheaper), and organic sheets. Does anyone know if the PB Classic are worth the extra cost?

Or, should we use our gift card to buy our comforter and shams, and get sheets elsewhere? Does anyone know if the Hotel Collection from Macy's is better or worse than PB? Any other recommendations? We're okay with splurging because we have the gift card and really don't have any bedding to speak of, so we want something that's going to last a long time.

TIA!

Anniversary

Re: Pottery Barn bedding?

  • I'd get sheets at BB&B or TJMaxx at a good price.  $150 might get you a duvet cover or a bed spread at PB.

The problem with that is that I've bought a lot of department store bedding, and it just doesn't last. As I said, I'm really looking for advice about which sets from PB are the best, since I already have the $150 gift card (the sheet set we're looking it is almost exactly $150, but I want to know if I should invest in the PB Classic instead of the PB Essential). Thanks!

This.  I think PB is having a bedding sale right now, so you should be able to find a decently priced duvet and maybe some shams for $150.  Try to buy a higher quality sheet set at BBB or a department store.  I know you mentioned that they don't seem to last, but maybe the thread count was low.  I tend to buy 400 count and sometimes 1000 count and I've been happy.

  • I have never looked into sheets at PB. Check the thread count. The higher the better quality sheet. FYI: I know the sheets in PB Kids are 280 thread count, which is pretty crappy.

Put your 150 toward the decorative aspects of your bedding and get some quality sheets at Bed Bath and Beyond (use those coupns they have). That's where I buy all of mine and have always been happy.

  • I'm looking for new bedding and plan to check out Pottery Barn as well.  One of my friend swears by them.  She has 3 cats and she says they are great because you can easily get the cat hair off.  She also washes them every week and says they wear really well.  She said she's purchased bedding there for 3 of the rooms in her house and didn't have a huge preference regarding their organic brand vs. regular brands.

Let me know if you end up getting them and what you think because I'm considering as well!

  • Not sure about Macy's Hotel Sheets, but we have the towels and they are VERY good quality.  Our current set of towels are 7 years old and still in good shape.  I am just now thinking of replacing them the next time I have a good coupon from Macy's.  So if their sheets are like their towels they will be great.

  • I have PB sheets (not the cheaper ones, like the classic or whatever the main line is - percale, good thread count). I've had them for 3-ish years and while they are way better than what I had bought at BBB in the past (never doing that again after 2 different sets that didn't hold up at all), and I like them, I don't love them. Haven't tried Hotel Collection so can't speak to those.

But they do have deep pockets if that is an issue for you (it was for me).

  • I highly recommend PB comforters/duvets/quilts/throws/shams/towels and would spend the gift card on one of those items. Their sheets are fine, but I typically pick those up at Marshalls, TJ Maxx or BB&B.

As for the Hotel Collection, I was not a fan of their towels(PB's are a million times better).  However, my sister has some Hotel Collection bedding and she seems to like it.

  • We bought Ralph Lauren sheets at TJMaxx for $50 and they have lasted for two years and are the best we've tried yet.  I wouldn't waste the money on Pottery Barn sheets just because PB is overpriced already.  If you have the money though, I'd get a nice duvet cover and matching shams, or possibly a pretty decorative option that won't be worn out too often that will match several different bedding options.  I like their velvet quilts for winter options.  We have dogs, so we always do two levels:  one that dogs don't sleep on, and then a cover that the dogs can sleep on.
