How/where did he propose? My DH made me go pay the cashier for our gas while he threw the ring in my purse!
Did he have a ring? He did have the ring!
Did you already know he was going to propose? I did, I went with him to the jewelry store, I didn't know for what (his moms bday was coming up so I figured it was a gift for her).
Did you pick out the ring or did he surprise you? When we where at the jewelry store, we looked at rings and I found the perfect ring and he asked if I liked it, I said yes and he told the guy he wanted to buy it

After he paid for the ring, I couldn't wear it because it was a size 12 and I'm a size 5 and we had to leave it to get it sized. I wanted to wear it that same day and I couldn't. I already knew he was going to propose but I just didn't know when. He got it back the day of his cousins wedding and when we where on our way to the wedding we needed gas and he made me go pay the cashier (he had never made me go pay) so I automatically knew what was going to happen! I wish he would have proposed better but I still love him and the way he did it!!!!

How did it all happen? Explain in juicy details!!! We were going to have an anniversary date night. I worked a half day then got my hair and makeup done. While I was out I got a call from DH's sister because DH had called her but she missed it and wouldn't answer the phone. I immediately knew something was up so I headed home. When I got there I saw his parents car in the parking lot and thought "Oh God, he's going to do it front of his parents. Ugh!" But then I realized his aunt and uncle were visiting from NY and wanted to see the apartment. I figured he would just do it after the date at this point. So everybody left and he asked me right then and took me by surprise!

How/where did he propose? Our favorite state park on top of a overlook/tower.

We decided to go for a drive to the state park (about 1 1/2-2 hr drive). Just like any other time we had been. When we got there we parked and started to walk down a trail towards our favorite part, the overlook/tower. (it's a huge tower that overlooks the park). On our way there was some flooding (it had rained recently). I told him it was ok we could just do another trail, we didn't have to go to the tower. He said No, we're going, told me to get on his back and gave me a piggyback ride through the water. We were on our way up the stairs when he took off running ahead. By the time I got to the top he was on one knee with the ring in his hand. We were both out of breath and he was a little shaky when he asked me to marry him!!

Dh took me down to the beach across from his fam's summer home. We were going to go fishing in the evening as the tide came in. He told me to walk down the river away from the ocean so that he could cast the line and feed it out into the river. He handed me the rod and had me start reeling. I immediately felt a tug and got so excited I caught a fish right away. I started bringing the line in and the line got stuck so I kept tugging thinking the fish was fighting. Well I tugged back and out came a flying object that DH caught. It was the setting to those big fake engagement rings but the diamond part was missing. He handed it to me and knelt down and laughed bc he was going to propose using that ring and said but I guess I can use this one instead and opened my box. It was such an amazing creative moment.

Did you pick out the ring or did he surprise you? The diamond was my mom's so I knew about that. We had briefly looked at settings online and I showed him a couple of settings that I liked so that he had an idea of what I wanted, but the actual setting he picked out was a surprise.

I had family coming in town for Labor Day weekend. It was also my good friend's 30th birthday and a bunch of people were going to dinner to celebrate. So, earlier that week, I was telling H about the dinner and he said that we couldn't go because he had wanted to take me out on a "special date" that night, which I thought was a little odd. I asked if we could do the "special date" another time since it was such a busy weekend coming up but he was very, very persistant about wanting to do it that particular Saturday night. At that point I was convinced he was going to propose.
Now, I have to add that my mom had a pair of diamond earrings that she wore every day, however I knew she was planning to give one of the diamonds to H to use in an engagement ring. I had been watching and waiting for a couple of months for her to stop wearing her earrings but she just kept wearing them. The week of the "special date", I saw my mom twice, and she was still wearing the earrings, which totally threw me off. But I had no idea how long it took to put a diamond in a setting, so I wasn't completely giving up on the idea of a proposal. Well, I saw my mom the very day of the "special date", and low and behold, she was wearing the earrings. At that point I was 100% convinced I wasn't going to get a proposal that night, because I knew H wouldn't propose without a ring.
So, fast forward to that night. H made me close my eyes, and he drove us to a restaurant. It wasn't a fancy restaurant or anything, just a pretty casual place that we both like. Dinner was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. After dinner, H looked at his watch and said we were "running right on time". Because he mentioned being "on time", I thought maybe he was taking me to the drive-in, something I've never done but always wanted to do. So, he made me close my eyes again once we got into the car. He drove around for a bit and then he told me to open my eyes. We were at a park that we had been to several times to feed ducks and take our dog for a walk. We got out of the car and walked around for a bit and the whole time I'm thinking, "Why are we here?" He started telling me how much he loved me and then he got on one knee and asked me to marry him....and he had a ring!
It turns out, my mom was going to stop wearing her diamond earrings all together, but her best friend convinced her that it would ruin the surprise for me, so she was able to find a pair of CZ earrings that looked IDENTICAL to the real diamond earrings. In fact, my mom had been wearing one CZ earring and one diamond earring for like 3 months! You couldn't even tell the difference
The day after our proposal, we went to a family friend's house for a Labor Day Cookout, and it turns out it was a surprise engagement party that H and my family and friends had planned for me. It was such a fun weekend, and it was kind of fun re-living it just now as I was typing it
How/where did he propose? San Antonio, Texas on my birthday 10/10/2010. On an island in the middle of the Riverwalk, San Antonio's most romantic place.

How did it all happen? Explain in juicy details!!! Told me we were going away for the weekend to San Antonio for my birthday and for Oktoberfest. Didnt think anything of it. We had a whole weekend planned. He claimed on Friday going there that he had left my present at home...a very expensive watch I had been eyeing. We got there without me knowing where we were staying. We stayed at the Valencia which is a brand new hotel on the riverwalk with a balcony view. Romantic! He took me shopping and doated on me! Saturday we spent the day at Fiesta Texas cause we love rollercoasters. Sunday was my birthday and we basically took it easy because we were exhausted after Saturday. He gave me a beautiful set of earrings in the AM. We had lunch, shopping and napped. The evening came and we had reservations at the Fig Tree. Very romantic. After dinner we walked down to the Riverwalk and started back on foot towards the hotel. I felt his hand get clammy as he held mine. We got to the island in the middle of the river where he ended up proposing. We looked at the sculpture and sat on the bench, there were other ppl there so he kind of waited. He spoke clearly and slowly and quitely. After he said what he said...PRIVATE...he spun around and got down on one knee and said Rachel will you be my wife? I tried not consentrating on the ring so much and I shook my head yes. Then said yes but not loudly like I always pictured myself doing. Afterwards we hugged and just then a riverboat full of ppl came by and I screamed we are engaged! They all clapped. We walked back towards our hotel and just talked for hours. I could hardly sleep! It was amazing. He did so good.

We were LDR so I knew it was going to be the weekend he proposed or the following weekend because those were the times we were visiting each other after I gave him the go ahead that I was ready to be engaged.

We went ring browsing together so he could see what I liked but that was months before he proposed. He picked it out himself.

Since we were both poor & just graduated from college we joked that H would only be able to afford a plastic ring from those gumball machines for kids. The day he proposed we went to the beach. He had 11 plastic rings and told me I needed to help him choose which ring I liked best. I was mentally panicking thinking he'd bought multiple diamond rings he couldn't afford. No, he just kept pulling out .25cent plastic rings asking if I'd like one of them. I kept telling him no, laughing and putting them in his shirt pocket. Eventually he pulled out my diamond e-ring and asked if I'd like that one. Then he asked me to marry him and put it on my finger.
Interesting side note: my sister made our wedding cake and put those plastic rings on top of it as decoration.
in hindsight, very bad....no woman should be proposed to where it is a surprise.
The both of you need to discuss marriage well ahead of any sign of a proposal.
You need to find out the whys and wherefores; what he earns, what savings he's got, what assets he owns, whet his debt is, has he got student loans and if so, how much is there, what has he got saved for retirement, what his 5 year plan is for himself and what his 10 year plan for himself is.
If businesses have a 5 and 10 year plan, so should people. Whether or not you are dating anyone, you need one.:)
I also did NOT pick the ring out. He did the selecting.
I did NOT like the ring: he knew I did not like yellow gold...guess what he got me...
This also isn't a good sign. where's the sensitivity toward what you want and what your preferences are? You're the one who will be wearing the ring -- and it shows you how well a guy listens. This ring was all about him, not all about me. None of this was well thought out.
Interesting to note we are divorced. And have been for a long long time.:)
What I would have liked to have done:
Picked the ring out together --- and there is nothing worse than a mall engagement ring...guess what he got me.
I'd have gone to the Diamond District in the city and gotten a bigger bang for his buck. The selection is far more extensive and the prices can't be beat. (he wouldn't even take a day off to look there himself. Said he didn't want to)

My dad was really sick with cancer and we had gone up to visit him. A friend of my dad's told DH that if there was anything that he wanted to say to my dad that this would be a good time. So DH found a good moment during the weekend and asked me to come with him to talk to my dad. He asked him if he could be a part of my family and if I could be a part of his, with my dad's permission. My dad said he would be honored. He turned and asked me if I would marry him. I said yes.
How/where did he propose?
On my bed. I was snuggled under the covers and he was laying on top of them.

Yes. I found one that I told him was perfect, but he went and bought it by himself.

I didn't know when, but I knew that he would. We had been talking about it for months, and we had been ring shopping multiple times for ideas.

I picked it out. He acted like he didn't really like the style that much so that I would think it wasn't going to be the one he actually bought. I didn't find out that he actually liked it from the start until a couple of months ago. Haha.
How did it all happen?
I was sitting on my bed after a very long, stressful day, when he called me and asked if he could come over. Of course, I said sure, and when he showed up a few minutes later he sat on the bed with me and asked me how my day was. I told him it was stressful and that I was in a bad mood, and he said "Hmm... well, would this make you feel better?" and opened the box. I looked at him and said "Are you serious?" Him: "Of course." Me: "Are you serious??" Him: "Yes. Will you marry me?" Me: "Sure. I guess." And then I laughed, and he called me a jerk, then put the ring on my finger, and the rest is history. It may sound kind of lame to anyone else, but it was such an us moment, and I wouldn't have wanted it to be any other way. We aren't a fancy, over the top kind of couple. We are simple and sarcastic, and I love it. :]
How/ Where did he propose? well, we were looking at houses to buy and he loved one that i wasn't too crazy about. it had +s but more -s. we argued and fought over this house all week. we could talk and be civil but neither of us dared to mention ANY house. that saturday while bickering about the house and i was cleaning our house with my hands full of dog toys to be put away, he droped to his knee and asked. i looked at him and said "are you freaking serious? you could have picked a better time to do this than now" then realized what was happening and dropped everything and tackeled him on the couch and cried and laughed and kissed him repeatedly!!

Did you already know he was gong to propose? yes, but no. we talked about it but never said about it for sure, every once in a while he would say my dad thinks we need to get married. had no clue he was going to do it when he did.
Did you pick out the ring or did he surprise you? we went "just looking" one night and i showed him a ring i liked, just a small round solitare. little to my knowledge he already had the ring and was double checking himself. i LOVE the Heart shaped Solitare so much more!
How/where did he propose? - He setup a picnic for an evening dinner in our favorite park, and put the ring around a cloth napkin. I was so immersed in conversation I didn't notice until I pulled it off the napkin.
