new BP reading

Thanks for all the advice yesterday. I was hoping it was maybe the white coat syndrom, so today I rechecked it and it was a little higher than yesterday. I'm going to watch it tomorrow too and if its higher again tomorrow I'm going to call the doc. He didn't ask me to check it, but now that I have I want to keep it monitored. Good thing its a lazy saturday!

PS- is pre-eclampsia genetic? My mom had it with me. I dont have protein or swelling/headaches. Just curious.

Re: new BP reading

  • no, not genetic. also, you can have pregnancy induced hypertension and not pree. that's what i had. i didn't have protein or headaches and the swelling had been going on but wasn't too awful until they pumped me full of a billion bags of fluids so who knows what was going on after that. but i was somewhat high during the failed induction, but that wasn't why they induced me. the second, and real, induction was because when i went in for monitoring my BP was in the 170's. med's weren't bringing it down and they took away my walking privileges after the induction and water breaking happened and made me get in bed and lay on my side while they gave more meds, which did help the rest of delivery.

personally, i wouldn't wait to check tomorrow since two days in a row it has been high. i would call today and let them know and let them make the decision whether to continue to wait it out or not. high BP is nothing to mess with.

Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • I'm sorry your blood pressure is still going up but I am glad to hear that you are monitoring it even though your doc didn't tell you to. I do agree with CCH though that if it is still going up to call your doctor. High blood pressure can be dangerous and they may be able to give you something now to help lower it and not neccesarily jump to inducing early.

  • I would definitely call your doctor and let them know, if it continues to rise you could be in danger!

What was your bp yesterday and today?

Normally my BP is half dead (super low)

Yesterday was 140/78 (first thing in the morning)

Today was 144/85 (right after eating lunch). It was on a drugstore machine...not sure if those are as sensitive as a nurse doing it.

I would call tonight and at least make someone aware of your readings and ask for advice. Your numbers aren't super crazy high but they are definitely higher than normal, especially the bottom number. For some reason I remember being told to be concerned if my pressure was more than 140/90.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • I had to call if mine got above 150/100 (either number was higher) but of course we are different people so my doctor's threshold for me shouldn't have anything to do with yours. I was also told to rest for 10 mins or so before taking my bp. My bp would be higher if I walked upstairs and then took it vs sitting down for 10 mins first. I would take it 1st thing in the morning before getting out of bed and then right before I went to bed. I recorded all the readings in a notebook so I could show it to the doctor.

  • My bp pre-pregnancy bp was always low, like below normal low and towards the end was reaching the high end of normal.  I did not have pre-e.  If there's not any proteins or swelling/headaches then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
  • Sorry it's still high. Are you on bed rest? Hopefully they would put you on bed rest first and monitor the protein in your urine before jumping to an induction.

My advice is to just lay down as much as possible, and stay out of the heat. For me, even walking from room to room made my BP sky rocket.
