How much $$$ to go to a winery?

DH and I were talking about maybe going to a winery for our anniversary, neither of us have ever been, so we have no idea how much it would cost.  We normally don't spend anything/much, so if it's too much we'd probably just hang out here with DS.  We'd really like to find a wine that we both like (everything we've tried has been too dry), but buying bottle after bottle just to try it doesn't seem very economical either.

Re: How much $$$ to go to a winery?

  • Most wineries have wine tasting, so you don't have to buy all just to find a favorite. Bottles of wine are around $17.00-ish depending on which kind. Call ahead to see if the winery allows you to bring your own snacks, that will save you $.
  • This is the one we went to and the wine tasting was complementary.  However, I don't know if they would be open on your anniversary.

  • Some wineries have free wine tasting, some will cost you 5 dollars, but you get to keep the glass.

Typically, when we go, (we as in the family), we bring a cooler of water, soda for the drivers, cheese, crackers, bread, grapes, different types of meat and maybe a bread dip. All of that is normally 25-30 dollars so we we at that while we're drinking.  Wine, at the wineries usually costs 12-25 dollars a bottle depending on the winery and what type of wine you get.

    Have fun!!!

  • Charleyville winery in Ste. Gen has wines that are sweeter than most of the ohter wineries, have free (and generous) tasting, and sell wine by the glass as well as the bottle.  They also have a couple of their own microbrews.

This is a small, family winery.

  • If you enjoy bicycling, my husband had a really fun day biking the Katy Trail. I think we started in Defiance and biked to Sugar Creek Winery.  They have free tastings. The day we went they also had live music playing. They do allow you to bring food.  We biked over there and had a picnic.  We shared a $5 glass of wine.  It was a very fun, cheap date.
