who does your taxes?

Where does everyone get their taxes done?  and how much do you pay....or does anyone use turbo tax or do their own?  I would love to try but it seems like so much...FI's taxes are tough b/c he's self employeed so he has all those taxes and he clames the house too

Re: who does your taxes?

  • My FIL does ours,  but doing taxes is his side job.  It is nice because they have never been easy living in multiple states and with grad write-offs!
  • I do my own, and use Tax Cut. I have to do Schedule C for self-employment, too but I don't claim an office in my house - that's very complicated and there are so many rules. I suggest taking them to someone. I'm not sure what they'll charge you. But maybe you'll get some suggestions on here.

Also, I majored in accounting - so I did taxes in college as a volunteer. If I didn't have the experience, I probably would pay someone.

  • I get my taxes done by a friend, she works at the Tax Stop in Cherry Hill though.  I dont know what she charges because she doesnt charge me the regular rate. B Ut she knows her stuff and I always get my taxes back within 2 weeks of seeing her.
  • I do it with Turbo Tax, but I don't have any self-employment stuff to claim.
  • I use Joel Penn on the White Horse Pike in Lindenwold 856-627-2100.  My family's been going to him for years and he's great.  I'm an accountant too and I don't do my own taxes (and mine are simple) because I don't stay current with the laws and regulations.
  • I use someone on Pitman...i can't remember his name right now but if you want it let me know
  • Dh does the taxes.. yay for marrying an accountant!  before him though my dad would just do them on turbo tax.
  • We use Ed Oberman (I think that's his name, lol) in Washington Twp. My parents have used him for years and when we had a problem with H&R Block last tax season we went to see him and he did a great job!

We have some stuff that makes it difficult to do our own taxes (student loan and tuition write offs, kids/daycare write offs and we both work in Philly and have city wage tax stuff) so I'd rather pay someone.

He charges us something like $250. For us it is worth it.

  • I do my own and FI uses an accountant but I'll soon be doing all of ours.  Being self employed does require additional forms, however it's not that difficult if you have any acctg/tax experience.  If you are not familiar, you should use an accountant or get one of the upgraded editions of tax software instead of the basic.
  • My husband does them with Turbo Tax. ?It's super fast and easy too!
  • The hubby does ours. This will be our 1st year with the house, so i think things are going to be different. He'll figure it out I'm sure. Smile
  • My dad does mine, but this year I'm going to ask him to show me how to do them.  I think it is pretty easy once you know what to do.  We'll see!
  • I do ours.  I've been doing my own every year since my first part time job.  Since like 2004 I've been using Turbo Tax.  So far so good, we've never had any problems.
