We have been trying all week to set a time to do a walk through and return the keys. He won't call us back. Plus he hasn't got our new address for the return of the security deposit. I just know he is going to pull something.... I'm going to photgraph everything, but I am so tired of fighting moronic men.
Re: My landlord is an ass
I had a situation similar when I moved out of a privately owned apartment. I took photos of everything and sent a certified letter to him which included my forwarding address and that I expected to receive my entire deposit back. I notated each date and time which I had called or contacted him to set up the appointment in the letter and that due to his non-response I was sending the letter with the keys.
I got my entire deposit back.
OH.. and note... in NJ you are also entitled to any interest money that was earned in the escrow acct in which your security deposit was deposited! I got that back as well!
Oooh, I learned from the People's Court (I stay at home all day w/the baby and can't force myself to watch soaps, so I watch crappy day time court shows, lol) that you should take pictures with a copy of that days newspaper shown in every picture (to prove the date).
I have only rented once and I was lucky with the landlord, I've heard some crazy stories about wacked out landlords. Hopefully you guys can get out and into your new home as easily as possible!
Good luck.
