Ok I finally got a couple minutes to type this up. warning it's long and TMI but you girls want the whole truth
So monday morning Dh and I wake up around 9, have a little fun
, then we get up and I get on with my errands. I go to the drs to get some paperwork, grocery shopping, lab and home. The whole time I was out I wasn't feeling any different than normal.
At home I just sit back, relax and do laundry. My parents bring Isabel back around 5 and she now has a cold so she immediately conks out on the couch for 2 hours.?
When she wakes up we decide to have our dinner, but I have to go to the bathroom first. And this whole time still not feeling anything. It is now 8pm.
As we were heading to the bathroom she has me bend down to pick up something and I feel myself leak and I think great I just peed in my pants, so I go to bathroom and finish but when I stand up I'm still leaking, so now I'm thinking maybe my water just broke. So I put on a pad and lay down for awhile. When I get back up 20min later, the pad is soaked. I call DH at work and tell my water broke and it's time to go the hospital. I also call my parents? and let them know. They had just got home from dropping her off and had to get back in the car and come back.
While I am waiting for DH to get home, I start to gather our things and than I start to have a few minor contractions. He gets home we get Isabel dressed and load the car.? It's about 9pm when we leave. On the way to the hospital I start having contractions every 4-5min, nothing too strong.
We check in but have to wait to get put into a room, meanwhile my parents show up to take over Isabel.
I finally get checked in around 10pm, my water has definitely broke and I am 3-4cm dilated however Joaquin is still floating way up there. So my water is leaking like crazy and I am not allowed to walk unless I'm going to the bathroom.
Contractions are still coming about 4 min apart, getting a little stronger but still manageable.
I get checked again around 11:30 and I am still at 4cm and he hasn't moved. My parents decide to take Isabel home and will come back early in the morning.
Dh and I continue to work thru the contractions, and I'm still doing ok without any medication but? they are coming a lot quicker and a lot harder, plus (and this is TMI) my water is still squirting everywhere, so I am really uncomfortable. Since I hadn't eaten since 5 I was also hungry and nauseous at the same time.
The dr comes to check me at 1:15 and I have barely moved to 5cm and the contractions were really strong. And Joaquin still had not gone any further down.
Isabel's labor had been this so slow as well and I knew I did not have it in me to go the 20 or so hours it took with Isabel so I said "that's it, give me the epidural"? Dh did ask me a couple times "are you sure?", and the contractions are really strong and I am really close to losing it. I just wanted that epidural.
We wait for the anesthesiologist and he finally arrives. I sign the paperwork and he is just about to get his stuff when the nurse notices something on the monitors and decides to check me again, it is now 1:45am, a 1/2 hr since the last time I was checked. And I am now fully dilated and he is on his way. She said I could still get the epidural but he was coming out so we decided to wait for the dr.
DH tries to call our parents to get them down here. Well first he starts to text them, and I'm working thru a contraction so I practically yell at him "DON"T TEXT THEM, JUST FREAKING CALL THEM"
So after that contraction he calls my dad and starts going into all these details and again i have to yell "just tell them to get here"
Another contraction and he goes to call his folks and the same thing. I swear I was so close to just grabbing the phone from him and yelling into it "just get your butts down here" and hang up.
Meanwhile the pushing contractions start. And those were the worse. It was so hard not to push. I really felt so out of control and so like a wuss. DH was right there, grabbing my hands trying to get me to focus on something else.
Dr is taking his sweet time and then everything happens in a blur, they have me turn on my side to get him to travel down faster and it worked because by the next contraction before I can even get on my back without me really pushing he comes out. And he came out so fast I felt him ripping me-that REALLY hurt.
The Dr is barely coming in the room, the nurse is able to grab Joaquin and suction his nose before pulling him out all the way. Next thing I know Dh is telling me to look he's here. Official birth time 2:04am.
And I am beyond confused. I really don't know how it happened, what happened. DH is just telling me "you did it, you did it. Look at him, listen to him cry"
They clean him off and weigh him and give him to me for skin to skin, and I just stare at him, after about 10min I try to breastfeed him and right away he just took it. He took it so quick it almost scared us.
I was still dealing with all the adrenaline and emotions and I was shaking like crazy. We decided to hold off on seeing Isabel until I was done with those since I didn't want to scare her.
Finally they bring her in and see is kind of weirded out as first but than just gives him a kiss and starts talking about "her baby". And the minute she started talking Joaquin opened his eyes and reached towards her, It was the greatest thing ever.
Than they took him to the nursery for his bath and Dh went with him. Isabel got to watch thru the windows and was super excited. She was giggling and laughing the whole time.
Meanwhile I get to do all the fun stuff like peeing for the first time and the clotting. next it was to my recovery room. With isabel I remember peeing sore with some minor cramping but this time has definitely been worse. on top of the rip, I also have hemorrhoids and the usual soreness. Plus the cramps were soooo much worse.
And those hospital beds are so uncomfortable. I wanted nothing more than to go home. However since I had tested positive for the group b strep and I wasn't able to get the 2 required doses of antibiotics before he was born they wanted to monitor him for? 48 hours.? I can't even tell you how good it felt to come home to my house and sit in my big comfy padded recliner.

Great story Kat. I'm so glad Joaquin is doing so good with BF. I swear that's how Mary was. She came out asking for food.
And that is so sweet about Izzy meeting him. Melt your heart huh.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm not glad that you ripped and had a lot of pain, but I'm glad you got to do it drug free like you wanted. That was a great story. I swear, they're all similiar but all so different. THanks for posting. Wasn't TMI for me at all
Wow, I got all teared up- the reaching for his sister and how she reacted was priceless
I'm so glad you got to have things drug-free- I wouldn't have the guts... I hate pain, lol!
Congratulations and welcome home Joaquin
Holy crap no epi? You're my hero.
When the nurse made me pee for the first time it burned so bad (from being cut) that I kept laughing. It didn't help that the nurse was laughing along w/me. it's a horrible feeling.
I love how he responded to Isabels voice. so sweet.
